E-skip last night

Sorry this late posting- but the Winter e-skip seems to have gotten underway with a nice opening last night @ 8.30PM EST into Kansas. Might be worth keeping an ear on the bands these evenings.

I, too, noticed the e-skip Sunday evening. It was around 8:15 PM here. I was receiving an Analog VHF Channel 2 TV station with regular FOX programming. From my location in Lexington, KY, it was coming from the SW direction. Since all the High Power stations have gone to digital, it must be an LP repeater or something like that. It had a steady signal for several minutes but would ocassionally fade a bit and other signals would try to take over the channel. I did not notice any DTV e-skip on 2 through 6 at that time. Strange...

Sorry, it was FM at least up to 102.1. Just lots of Ms tonight

Wow! I missed it and I was paying close attention to the DX sherlock site where I could see a MUF of 85 MHZ over about northern Alabama. It was for the longest time but it didn't go higher so I didn't check the FM.

I've always wondered. Can the actual MUFs be higher than listed because someone isn't actually reporting the skip at that given time on their site?

That is XHRIO Matamoros, Mexico. Near the Brownsville area, but still an XE callsign, so it's fine to stay on air. Same with XETV 6 in Tijuana (San Diego).

When checking DX Sherlock I use the North America 50MHz map. At the time of the Es it was awash in red from our area into the plains

Activity on 50 MHz (6 meter amateur band) is merely an indicator that the MUF is getting close- it doesn't always end up hitting FM, but is a good sign to be on the look out.
You can also check :http://dxworld.com/tvfmlog.html for real time loggings of TV/FM, and there are several western DX'ers that report there for potential CA activity.
Hope this helps.

I saw the MUF get up to the 70s this morning over the eastern portion of the US. If I had a TV Dxing setup I probably would have tried for something. I was hoping it would get into the upper 80s so I could hear something on FM, but it never did. Guess Ill have to be on the lookout, these next few weeks could give us a Winter ES event on FM.
