E-Skip Log from upstate New York

Hey everyone. I read the post about the great E-skip opening in the northeast yesterday. I didn't know if there would be an opening today, but when I checked the FM band earlier this evening (between 6:30 and 8:00 p.m.) I was not disappointed. This opening was entirely from the southern US. Here's what I heard from my location (Geneva, NY),

88.5: WVDA Valdosta, GA (Air 1 christian rock), followed later by WJFM Baton Rouge, LA (Jimmy Swaggart/SonLife Radio)
88.7: WJFR Jacksonville, FL (Family Radio)
89.5: WPCS Pensacola, FL (Religious, came in well despite splatter from local first adjacent WEOS)
92.7: WKZJ Columbus, GA area (R&B K 92.7)
92.9: WTUG Tuscaloosa, AL (Urban)
93.3: WVFJ Atlanta, GA (Christian rock)
94.1: three stations logged here, plus a couple un-IDs
WSTR Atlanta (CHR), WMEZ Pensacola (soft hits), WEMX Baton Rouge (Hip Hop)
94.9: WUBL Atlanta (country)
96.7: WZNS Fort Walton Beach, FL (AC)
98.9 WBAM Montgomery, AL (Country, this station was almost totally overriding regional powerhouse WBZA in Rochesster)
99.7: WOOF Dothan, AL (AC)
100.1: WVVE Panama City, FL (AC)
100.7: WMUV Jacksonville (Movin') and WYPY Baton Rouge (Country)
102.7: WXBM Pensacola (Country)

Nothing much heard on the high end of the dial. Probably due to the high amount of local/regional stations and translators up there. Great first log of the season. Hope there will be a few more before the season ends. I'm just sorry I don't have an outdoor TV antenna. I bet I could have gotten some low band VHF. Sadly, this will probably be the last season we'll get much low band VHF by E-skip. :(

are you local to 93Q?

Good DX here too in the Hudson Valley, NY Thursday evening.

I was in the car around 6:30pm, and noted a solid signal from WTNT-94.9 country from Tallahassee, FL. Also good signal from "Rock 102.5" from Dothan, AL (WESP), both previously logged here.

At home, I noted previously logged WGCX-95.7 and WZNS-96.5, both from the Florida panhandle. Lots of signals were coming in, and I logged the following new ones:

WKEA-98.3 Scottsboro, Alabama, country, at 7:00pm. Mentioning the "tri-state". 822 miles.

WJOX-100.5 Northport, Alabama with local sports-talk at 7:11pm. This one had RDS display "JOX-100.5". 946 miles.

KHLL-100.9 Richwood, Louisiana "The Hill" at 7:35pm, Christian. 1189 miles.
WJXN-100.9 Utica, Mississippi "K-Love" at 7:43pm, with the Jackson (JXN) K-Love Community Calendar. 1127 miles.

KRMD-101.1 Oil City, Louisiana, country, with commericals for the Shreveport area. 7:52pm. 1265 miles.

WQJQ-105.1 Kosciusko, Mississippi, oldies, with Tom Kent, "Q-105" identifier at 8:13pm. 1078 miles.

KEZP- 104.3 Bunkie, Louisiana, "The Tiger" with commercials for Alexandria, 8:23pm. 1261 miles.

Skip disappeared rather abruptly after this. Also had some un-ID's, including "Country 101" on 100.5., and "K-Love"-104.5, talker on 100.9 and others. I will do a bit more research on these.

Sorry for the typo, Rob. Indeed, 'ZNS was on 96-5.

And, yes, I am near 93Q (WNTQ). I'm about one hour from both Syracuse and Rochester, and can hear most of the higher powered FMs from both cities with little effort. 93Q comes in quite well most days, although last night when WTUG was booming in, their splatter made listening to anything on 93.1 impossible.

Amazing what E-skip reception can do, and how it can wreak havoc on regional, or even local reception.

Marc? WZBG-FM isn't much better here in New Britain (CT) either. They always interfere with WQHT-FM 97.1 of New York on the few nights they come in here. As for the Portuguese station, I haven't pickted them up once since WZBG signed on in 1989, I do believe.
