I was trying to get my satellite radio adjusted this morning and was picking up a frequency that I usually don't receive much on. The RDS in my car even lit up as "MPB" on 90.9. Turns out it was WMAO in Greenwood, Mississippi!!!!
It also doesn't hurt that WMAO has a killer signal. Interesting call letters, eh? As in Mao Tse Tung... from The Deer Hunter, spin the chamber, put pistol to head and scream "Diddy Mao!"
WMAO is one of the stations with Mississippi's public broadcasting network. Also has a ETV station also in Greenwood, MS. I can recall hearing the Christian station on 99.5 years ago through similar conditions as you heard Mississippi, and it is one of about a mere handful of FM stations I have heard from southern Miss.
