E Skip strong in Fresno

Oddly I was getting a station from Lubbock TX in Fresno around 6:30 tonight. 97.3 Yes! FM. I have received 95.5 KLOS from L.A. a couple times in the past as well as Sacramento, San Francisco and Chico stations but this is by far the furthest I've ever picked up.

Yea, it's that time of year. My TV extremes are between Bakersfield KBFX/KBAK & KNVN Chico tonight.
Not as interesting as watching analog TV skip in the past, but that's progress. Just can't see anything out of state now. Canada & Texas would blow into the valley in the NTSC world. 8)

I sometimes have to ask myself if I didn't just dream it, but, I do remember one day in in the late 70s or early 80s, when I had a signal on every TV channel from 14 thru 83. I don'y remember if chas. 2-13 were included.

Back in the analog days of TV i've picked up e-skip from Texas ,Nebraska, and Oregon, examples KATU 2 Portland and KMID 2 from Midland Texas, frequently have picked up all 7 Los Angeles VHF, All Sacramento and Monterey/Salinas and KHSL 12 from Chico. KBAK and KBFX are regulars for me now in Clovis, I great for the NFL as Bakersfield would sometimes run different games than Fresno.
As far as FM, KLOS 95.5 Los Angeles and KTHR Thunder 100.7 Chico does come in from time to time. Bakersfield and Modesto/Stockton come in quiet regularly and sometimes Sacramento.

Those were the good old days of radio and TV. Now with HD radio and digital TV it is much harder to get TV and radio stations from Bakersfield or Sacramento. With digital TV it is a "all or nothing" task, it either comes in or it doesn't. With analog, it might be a little snowy, but I had the sound. I used to watch Rams football on 23 KERO back in the early to mid 80's. Ahhhhh memories!

Just got done doing deliveries through Fresno and in the N/W area KKHK 104.1 the hawk is literally taking over KFRR in many areas, and the interference is all over Fresno, did anybody notice in their morning commute, also heard Thunder 100.7 from Chico, this seems more of a tropo condition than an E-skip condition. It was strange hearing Bob and Tom on 3 stations, Here's a crazy far out idea, Wilks should Flip flop their stations putting the Fox on 104.1 and New Rock on 95.7, that way Classic Rock and Bob and Tom would be heard from The Grapevine to Sacramento on 104.1, of course that would cause mass confusion at first and would benefit 105.1 KKBZ.

I don't understand what that will accomplish. 95.7 can be heard as far north as Livingston/Delhi already. Amazing you can get 104.1 The Hawk in NW Fresno. In Oakhurst, I can see getting 104.1 The Hawk, because it is blasting away there, even better than the 103.9 is harder to get, even in the middle of Oakhurst at Hwy 41 and Hwy 49, just 30 miles from the transmitter above Mariposa. I've tried it, believe me! That 103.7 HD is really taking over! even in Oakhurst.

I was joking about the FOX and KFRR swapping frequencies, that why I said "crazy far out idea",they are both doing very well where they're at, and the cost to remarketing them and the mass confusion from listeners, it would not be worth it just to make 104.1 Classic Rock throughout the entire valley, even though frequency changes been done here with KALZ from 102.7 to 96.7; KLBN from 105.1 to 101.9 ; and KYNO from 1300AM to 940AM.

There was lots of e-skip on the West Coast on the evening of July24. That followed a VERY significant skip event for much of the east coast, with skip as far up the dial as 200 mHz in some places.
It wasn't _that_ unusual in the west, but from Seattle I had Arizona and Nebraska in at the same time. For me the skip lasted about 90 minutes, beginning at 7 PM.
As in Fresno, a friend in the San Francisco bay area was receiving west Texas FM.

It's Baa,aack! - Everything (FM) was "blowing in" rather well from the Sacramento area this morning, even "KLOVE's" KLVB 99.5 from Citrus Heights @ 5.1kW. It was taking out the "10 Watt" CPR translator in Merced & there was definitely no trace of KLOK Greenfield/Monterey @ 30kW. - Noticed on the drive between Merced & Los Banos today. - As if we have nothing better to do?

That's not e-skip. It's a different form of propagation called "tropo" which is short for "tropospheric ducting."
It's fun, and most likely to happen when there's a huge area of high pressure (most likely in the Central Valley when the winter fog has been in place over a 300-mile radius for several days.
Trop usually covers a shorter distance than e-skip.
In this case, Fresno to Sacto is a couple hundred miles, (trop), as compared with Fresno to Lubbock, Texas on June 24 e-skip.)
No matter what it's called, it's fun to hear stations we don't usually get.

Funny you mention KLVB. That station signed on a week ago. This is probably the first time you've heard it since it's been silent for over 4 years. Before that it didn't exist.

Surprised you didn't hear KLOK.
