E-skip with a new state! 6/14/13

Just wrapped up an E-skip opening to the Midwest that resulted in a new state being logged!

12:12PM - 99.5 KKMA Sioux City, IOWA - "Two Tickets to Paradise" Eddie Money, followed by "Kool 99.5 Classic Rock" ID. NEW STATE! FM state #14. New Log at 1292 miles.

Also UNIDs including
94.7 rocker (KNEN?)
89.7/91.1 unid NPRs
96.1 big UNID - 1950's classic country (Hank Williams type) that still had 78-rpm crackles and noise in it. Who could be having the REALLY OLD classic country? KINI-NE?
Es might be coming back so I will check throughout the afternoon.

That's quite a catch from where you are...I'm impressed! I can only imagine the excitement that logging brought your way.

The 91.1 NPR might be KUCV Lincoln, NE, KTNE Alliance, NE, or KTSD Reliance, SD.
The 89.7 NPR is likely KUSD Vermillion, SD

The 96.1 classic country could be KXXY Oklahoma City, OK, but it is owned by Clear Channel, and I would think they would play a cleaner version of a song, if they played a song that old.

According to KINI's website, they play country music on Fridays between 9am and 11am, along with from 1pm to 1:50pm (all times Central). I'm looking at their website and they are a full service station which plays several different formats, ranging from Native American music to top 40 hits.

You just got one of my longball tropo logs from Michigan!! Ingredients were there for serious Es distances today. I logged El Paso (1,375 miles) this evening.

Good catches! I wish I still had my GE Superradio, that was stolen from me unfortunately a couple years ago :-[

I sure thought my 89.7 was KUSD. But no ID on that. 91.1 could have been anyone.

The 96.1 - KXXY is too far for single-hop E-skip. About 1550 miles, would be a double hop. I'm probably going to say KINI but you never know. I caught it around 12:20PM PT (2:20PM CT) so they could have been a "little late" switching to the next program. But not confirmed, so not logged.

Actually, the FM state should be 16. I have WA, OR, CA, NM, CO, AZ, WY, TX, ND, SD, NE, KS, MN, NV, UT and now IA.

Speaking of long-haul E-skip, a few years ago I received KID-FM from Idaho Falls, ID and KTZZ from Conrad, MT in Manistee, MI on the same day. Earlier this year I caught three Corpus Christi stations at 1,300 miles.

At the same time, a DXer in Central Oregon was getting Eastern North Dakota and Western Minnesota on FM. We just happened to catch the cloud, which probably due to latitude and longitude, went to a different area than Oregon's DX.

It's sort of the same thing with when Southern Oregon DXers get the Midwest. We usually get the Southwest (AZ, NM etc). And when same DXers have South Dakota and parts of NE, IA, we usually are straight into Colorado or Wyoming.
