E-skip with two newbies 7/6/14

(rant) First of all, why is it that there is hardly any E-skip reports on here anymore? There used to be a lot. The East Coast had a huge opening with double hop to UT and ID from Philadelphia, skip well over 108 mhz and we are still talking about the AM Frequency of the Week...(end rant)

Two newbies today! Intense skip to 101.3 and I woke up a little bit too late as I missed a lot of skip earlier including a MO report of a 400 watt Pullman, WA station on 88.5 and possibly double hop from KTAC 93.9 to FL panhandle!

9:45am - Woke up from a peaceful sleep
9:50AM - First signs of skip after I got out of bed, MUF to 96.5 with Country Top 40, likely KRGI Grand Island, NE
9:55AM - 92.3 KEZO Omaha, NE; mixing with CHR and many others with ad for Quality Care Research in Omaha. Relog at 1274 miles.
9:57AM - MUF up to 101.3 with unid NASCAR, either KSIB or KKYY.
10:00am - 96.5 KSOM Audubon, IA; MRN network NASCAR, TOH ID "Playing Your Kind of Country, 96.5 KSOM". Relog at 1311 miles. Was mixing with an unid Christian Contemporary station, prob KNWC (needed).
10:01AM - 95.5 KGLI Sioux City, IA; IDed "KG95," after Goo Goo Dolls song. NEW #264, 100KW at 1211 miles.
10:07AM - 97.3 KBLR Blair, NE; start of Kansas City Royals game, based on skip path, this is not the 250W translator of KKOY in Kansas. NEW #265, 25KW, 1259 miles. After KBLR, skip faded.
10:45AM - quick 93.3 fadeup with Diamond Rio "One More Day", nothing else noted.

I noticed something going on this morning and started monitoring DX on the VHF low band. Lots of different fire dispatchers skipping in on 32-33 mhz from the East coast area. I also checked the FM broadcast band and caught 90.7 KLSA out of Louisiana (ID popped up on the RDS). No others heard as I think I just caught the end of this opening by the time I headed to the car to check out the FM band.

Today, I got stations from Kansas. One is playing CHR known as "Power Hits 97.5" and the other is a station calling themselves KZPK. There was also a religious station on 99.1 but don't know where that one was coming from. All were receivable from my home somewhere in the valley cities of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

Power Hits 97.5 is KJCK-FM Junction City, KS, KZPK is 98.9 in St. Cloud, MN while your 99.1 religion was likely KJIL.
Kilokat7 - there's loads of skip in your area right now. TVFM Skip Logger has 107-108 MUF to CO KS etc. right now 2230z.

I had a huge opening as well to Texas, Mexico and Kansas! I have never logged Kansas before ever and this is the first time! Oklahoma too! The skip started about 1:00 P.M. and then it died at 2 but then came back more intense about 6:30 when I went on my dinner break at work. When I left work at 9:30 it was still going. 11:00 I went for a ride and still one frequency still had some skip but it seems to die fast at night.

I check my best two FM radios usually once an afternoon.

Not even good tropo enhancement. Had a possible meteor skip today (half second of music appear and disappear on an otherwise empty frequency, no movement of the radio), but that was it.

The high HF has been mostly dead as well (today, for example, CB was dead except for one weak Mexican outbander, 10 meters was dead, 12 meters was dead except on CW QSO, 15 meters was dead....you get the idea).

One more newbie and a relog!

8:35PM - Es back 88.7 and 88.9, 88.9 had K-LOVE // 103.1, likely KYLV Oklahoma City, but never stuck around for TOH :(
8:38PM - 88.9 KPRD Hays, KS religious program // webstream. Relog at 1200 miles.
8:42PM - 96.3 KZCH Derby, KS; ad for Spangle's Restaurants and ID "Channel 9-6-3" (pronounced nine-six-three). NEW #278, 50KW, 1344 miles!
8:45PM - highest MUF noted in this short burst with two deep 100.3. Also: who uses the slogan "The authority of the FM dial" in their IDs. I heard something like that mixing with a Hot AC station and the Toppenish pirate. KDVV Topeka?
