It really is Congrats to WOLF Country for creating and taking a good first bite out of WKDQ..... Oldies 105.3 is to be given a congrats... Since their switch.. They have nothing but upward trends that scream a 'good move' to both their operations... Oldies is fresher and more uptempo than what the last 18 months of WJPS-FM was... When Johnny Michaels left for Austin, they went flat and did not move the median age with the music... On WOLF... They are sitting at a tie for 4th with a 100kW CHR in the four county metro... Not shabby... Meanwhile KISS takes some back from 'STO in the metro (but not the ADI)....Still, when Clear Channel at 106.1 and let their young PD take a Tonya Harding bat and slam it hard against the ankles of 'STO, that was their high mark..Going after the lower end of 'STO's numbers in those days... Now it will be a more head on in the four county metro, with a live morning and local show on 106.1 against the live around the clock 'STO... The continued 'weighted' diaries from the minority placed diaries will continue to give 1400 a good four county chunk, since most of their audience is high TSL in the 47714, 47713 and 47708 zips as well as Henderson proper (their night coverage does get the minority areas of H'town).... 'GBF-am is solid for a talker with little local programming.....'GBF-fm is still slowly losing it's past glory and their sound is starting to sound more ATOR (All over the road) than hoaning in on a Active Rock sound...They play way too many older classic cuts trying to douse 107.5...Speaking of the three or four book gains for WABX..."KA-POW"...The balloon busted? I don't think "Jack" (their LMA owned by John number III) was the doing in....'Cause "Jack" will need a full book of billboards and promotions to see where they stand.. They should show us their colors in this spring '06 book.....WIKY stays the course, of course... and 'KDQ is a strong second, but they are now looking over their shoulders and the numbers that 93.5 created mostly on their own...'KDQ's main concern is their audience is now considered older than a WIKY's...It's starting to skew 35 and up as John David got his wish for a South Central Country on FM (He did have WROZ in their waining AM days).... Has anyone noticed that WORD's WVHI is OFF THE AIR??? I can only say that one of two things are happening... They ran out of money as their paid programming Ministries move to free internet and webcasting and they were not offering webcasting on their website....Or WORD is going to dump from 300 to 500k in getting that 5kW back to legal operation... Time will tell... They spent a mint to buy the tower land and the tower site need a complete rebuild... ??? We'll see.... Turpin may not show up in the book at WBNL, but the little 250 watt AM in Boonville is billing 15 to 20 grand a month and has large internet listening according to URCHIN reports....That's how you do small town radio....WUEV's consortium number (I hear through the grapevine) are strong.. Good for their staying in UE's hands...NOW GO RAISE YOUR BUDGET and don't take it out of the tuition the students pay..... ESPN, with ONE local show is showing that 1.7 is no reason to be fat and dumb and into sports... Of course, as an engineer I can say their '79 Collins was actually turned up to full power and was 'wheezing' and 'coughing' and when they turned the loudness factor up on the old exciter, it was distorted and the STL was chirping a nice 120kHZ tone in the background.....If someone would spend 50 to 100 grand to update the basics and spend some long term cash on a new higher tower with lower ERP, then they'd have a nice 54 down to Henderson (That's the protected contour of Class "B" FM's).... Enough for now... "Skip" on the sly....
