Eagan and Braude land at WGBH radio

Good move on the part of WGBH. This only helps solidify its news/talk daytime block as they "double-down" on thier intention to muscle-in on WBUR's turf.

Boston's NPR battle heats up even further!

I was wondering what they'd do with Rooney and Crossley; well:

>>Eagan said regular contributors to the new show, featuring “local conservation,” will include current 12-2 p.m. hosts Callie Crossley and Emily Rooney. And just as he did on WTKK, Patrick will follow Eagan and Braude to WGBH to host his monthly “Ask the Governor” segment.
from article linked above

For a time Rooney was a guest co-host with Severin on 96.9

So they really only replaced 2 local hosts with 2 different hosts, although one could argue they're better known. I don't see how this will help them "compete" with WBUR.

They've been on there for the last couple of weeks, but it also airs (Re-play) at night, as well as a Sports Talk show, same it airs on a Re-play at night

Laura can you give some more details about your comment ABOUT j+m
It's (Lauro), Yes I may, I don't know exactly what time both shows are on, I did catch both shows, in the last two weeks at night (But it was from earlier in the day) I think the Sports Talk one is on Wednesdays Noon-2pm, and re-run at night around 8pm or 9pm??

if a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear did it really fall??

Another example of public radio's idea of providing balanced, non-biased discourse. A local show hosted by a couple of liberal Democrats followed by another local show hosted by a liberal Democrat... both sharing a schedule that includes other shows hosted by, and produced for, liberal Democrats. It's really disturbing that any taxpayer money whatsoever goes to support what is a 100,000 watt beacon of shameless left-wing talking points. In the interest of full disclosure the organization should be renamed from the WGBH Eductaional Foundation, to the WGBH Indoctrination Collective. Their marketing slogan should be "There's Always One Side to Every Story on WGBH."

I don't

I don't think the argument holds up. These are programs of OPINION. It's not the same as listening or watching a straight-ahead newscast.

Are J & M doing a bit of preaching to the choir on WGBH?....Yeah!. BUT.....the same holds true for folks like Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, and the like.

As a station that is supposed to be be public, relying on taxpayer money (however limited) and receiving favored status from the FCC (how many other broadcasters get to run at 100kw these days?) the "WGBH Educational Foundation" has an obligation to provide balanced time to responsible opinions on both sides of the political spectrum. No one is forced to subsidize or favor commercial, for-profit stations that broadcast Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, etc. It is extremely inappropriate to accept taxpayer funds to espouse only one point of view, even if it may reflect the opinion of the majority of its listeners. It's disingenuous to pretend to offer intelligent and informative discourse, even on "opinion" shows, without offering differing points of view. The spectrum of opinion according to WGBH seems to consist of moderate liberal, very liberal and left wing.

As seen from WGBH's point of view....that's exactly right!

When the mainstream media talks about "diversity"....they only mean things like ethnicity, social status, gender, sexual orientation, etc. When it comes to opinion....everyone must be of one accord....or at least the range from moderate liberal to left wing. ;D

You obviously have never read the posts on NPR's web site calling them "National RePublican Radio" and "National Patrician Radio" and stating that they've sold out to Evil Capitalist Corporate AmeriKKKa while praising Amy Goodman. Or the lefty pressure groups like EXTRA claiming that NPR gives more time to conservative think tanks than liberal think tanks.

As I've stated many times, if the nutcases on both extremes hate NPR, they must be doing something right.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 were created to provide diversity in U.S. Broadcasting. They were tasked with providing educational and other programming of interest that couldn't be found on commercial radio. Nowhere anywhere does it say "every single noncomm MUST provide far right-wing programming that Rush fans approve of."

Are there problems with NPR? Sure. It's not a perfect system. But I'll tell you what, you don't hear any programming similar to NPR stations ANYWHERE else on any broadcast station. That's the point.
