Eagles on a 7-sec delay?

Is WYSP running the Eagles/Packers game on a 7-sec delay? Caught WMGM tonight on 206 in Medford Lakes, no delay there.

So much for turning down the TV volume and turning up `YSP.

My question is what delay would WYSP use to sync it up with the tv broadcast? Do they use the analog over the air broadcast which would be the same as Comcast analog cable? Do they sync it up with the analog broadcast that that Comcast makes digital for the digital boxes which is a couple of seconds behind the analog braodcast, or do they sync up to the HD broadcast on the DT channel which is delayed by a couple of seconds too? (not to mention DirecTv too).

They're probably just running everything through their delay that's used for the talk shows. Music too. I know WJSE 102.7 Petersburg is in delay 24/7 with a stereo delay. I'll bet WKXW is as well.

Yeah, good point! Hell, I can't even get analog and digital cable to sync.

What about the people listening to the game at the stadium?

'Ysp is IBUZZ now, so you can expect that delay.

Just to mae it harder, Ch6, which was running the espn feed was a few seconds behind the same feed on ESPN itself.

Poor Julius. He could only listen to Merrill Reese - not the Westwood One national broadcast "like every other market."

Yeah, poor him. :'(

I got to listen to Marv Albert on the Westwood One national broadcast up here! ;D

Yeeeeeesssssssssssssssss!

For what it's worth my ESPN via DirecTV and YSP sync'd up almost perfectly! It was a blessing to not have to listen to the ESPN idiots! (Mike T referring to Billy Penn as Ben Franklin on city hall, Joe T blabber about whatever and Tony K whining as he always does about staying up late and his fantasy team)
If only Fox would sync.........

The delay/sync varies with which network is carrying the game. I notice Cat Country 96 is usually about 5 seconds behind WYSP. I listen on whichever is closer to the tv delay that week. I actually like it if the radio is a little ahead of the tv - if I'm doing something else while watching the game, I don't have to bother looking up if Merill calls an incomplete or botched play, but I don't miss the good plays.

I listened on WYSP and watched over-the-air on Channel 6 (I don't have cable or satellite). One was about half-second ahead, though now I don't remember which was which. Like John, I did notice Cat Country in Allentown was way behind. I also tried WEEU Reading, but the reception was surprisingly poor and I didn't stay with it long enough to analyze the delay.

It's really a shame something I took for granted for years (turning down the TV sound for Merrill) going back to the WIP days has now become such an incredible pain in the rear because of "technological improvements" (so-called "HD Radio" will most likely make synching impossible, and so-called "Digital Cable") and an overly zealous FCC backed by members of Congress who are essentially working on a ban of live TV and radio programming.

I know, I've gone way off-topic...

Remeber, those small delays are from satellite lag. It takes a few seconds to encode, transmit to the bird, recieve from the bird, process and re-transmit. That's a 46,000 mile round trip. WYSP recieves their audio from the Linc directly, MOST affiliates get theirs from satellite delivery. It never really syncs up. I'd still rather hear Meryl & Mike with the video, even if it's not perfect.

You can thank the FCC and your conservative government for that delay. Rather than allow you to enjoy even a sports broadcast in real time, even they are delayed. Everyone's afraid of bad words such as "sh|t" and "damnit" being broadcast over the air where very little people might hear it 8 years before they'll be saying it anyways.

So turn up Boomer Assiason and Chris Cunnilingusworth every Eagles game.

Not.
