Eagles on both WYSP and WIP tonight.

I happened to be scaning the AM dial and on WIP I heard Merle Reese's voice, so I stopped and sure enough it was the Eagles game against Pittsburg. I then tuned to WYSP to see if they were carrying the game and yes they were. The interesting thing though is I believe WYSP is the flag ship station and WIP would be an affiliate. WYSP had the 10 section delay and WIP didn't. So you could hear the game 10 seconds earlier on the affiliate rather than the flag ship station. So I'm guessing, but WYSP must send out the signal live with no delay allowing their affiliates to delay if they choose. Apparently WYSP decided to use a delay and WIP didn't.

In Wilmington, WDEL didn't air the Eagles (even though they are Wilmington's affiliate for the Eagles) as they were carrying the Phillies just as WPHT was. WWTX, the Ticket AM1290 also didn't carry the Eagles as they carried the Blue Rocks, and WILM doesn't carry sports at all and were airing Savage as usual.

Were there other stations in the tri-state area carrying the Eagles tonight or are most of those Phillies stations too and locked out of tonights preseason game.

That's so you can listen to Merrill and Mike on WYSP and turn down the sound on your Comcast Cable and the play by play is sync'd up with the TV picture. WIP doesn't have the delay so you can listen to them at the game and it's live.

Interesting that the "WIP live, WYSP in sync with the TV" is also employed in road contests. Is there a single NFL stadium not named Lincoln Financial Field within WIP's coverage range?

Nope, there isn't. The closest would be the stadium in Baltimore or Giants stadium, and neither of those can sniff WIP's 5kw.

When the Iggles are on the road, one station should sync to the SD version of the game on Comcast cable and the other to the HD version. The question remains, though, which signal to sync with. Even if we assume it's the same on all the various Comcast systems in the neighborhood, you have:
Comcast Cable without a box
Comcast Cable with an analog box
Comcast Cable with a digital box
Comcast Cable with a digital DVR box

Maybe WYSP should dedicate its HD2 and HD3 stations to broadcasts of the game with varying degrees of delay. :)

Since WYSP-HD2 is KYW, that's out. Airing the game on WIP makes sense.

And to Mike's question. It's a pre-season game. Just like baseball pre-season games, not all affiliates are going to pick it up.

Instead of running the straight PBP on both stations, what if CBS ran the straight PBP on one station, and the other station ran a very loose broadcast designed to sound like people sitting in a bar watching the Eagles game with the sound down. Maybe let Angelo Cataldi and crew host it, and assume that everyone listening to it is actually watching the game and therefore doesn't need everything described to them. For sales purposes (i.e. to avoid the perception by advertisers that these two broadcasts are competing with each other), run the exact same commercials at the exact same time on both stations, just like they do now with the PBP on both stations.

Anyone think that would that work?

Don't forget Fios SD & HD and DirecTv SD & HD too!

There's a lot of Verizon trucks out there installing the fiber and every Fois box that goes in is one less Comcast box.

yep once my area gets wired for fios im dropping comcast

they have comcast sportsnet and that is why i will get it

Nobody in Philadelphia who cares about sports has DirecTV. :)

But yeah, there's also HD OTA, and, for this season only, SD OTA.

For the Verizon peeps, the SD broadcasted synced perfectly to the YSP feed. The HD telecast was a little off, but not by much. This is great for me, as most of the games will be on FOX and Joe Buck, even tho the son of a broadcast legend, leaves a lot to be desired as PBP lead. OK, not saying he absolutely sucks, just I'd rather hear "the home team broadcast". (And, we all know what I think of Aikman)

Now, the team of Dick Stockton, Daryl "Moose" Johnston and Tony "Goose" Siragusa is a different story, but I will save that for the "off the air" or "National TV" board.

Don't worry, you'll probably only get two games this season in Philly - both games against the Eagles. Fox is too busy whoring him out on the Giants games.

Re: Eagles on both WYSP and WIP tonight- Sync Question

Last week I tried to listen to both WIP and WYSP while watching the game on TV (VIA FiOS HD- channel). I could not get either to Sync with the TV. In both cases the radio was ahead of the TV. I thought one of the bonuses I heard about was being able to listen to WIP while watching the TV. Was/is that not the case? Did I read something wrong? Or is it my FiOS that is the issue? Looking for ideas before having to put up with Tony Kornhole tonight!

WIP promotes the fact that you can hear their announcers live and in-sync with the game... if you're at the game. Unlike WYSP, which is on a delay.

If you have digital cable with DVR capabilities, try pausing it for a few seconds and trying to sync it up with the radio. It's the best that you can get!
