Earliest 24/7 stations?

"The source of the porn-on-TV story may be an event that actually happened...though its possible it's also an urban legend. I remember hearing a story in the 70s or 80s about a TV station that was off the air late at night. I don't remember what city...perhaps LA. One or more people working graveyard at the station decided to put on a porn film in studio for..uh...personal entertainment, but somehow it got out over the air. Supposedly, a few insomniacs surfed by the station and got an unexpected movie treat for a few minutes."

This did accidentally happen during the 1970s at at least two stations, one in Syracuse and one in Atlanta, when someone doing overnight maintenance on master control after the broadcast day had ended decided to rack up a little adult entertainment on one of the film chains (no VCRs back then) purely for staff amusement...but had forgotten to kill the plates on the transmitter after signoff.

Heard there was quite a fuss in Atlanta.

But in Syracuse, no one complained.

As I've mentioned before, something similar happened to channel 26 (then WEVU) in Naples, Florida early in its history (mid-70's). Supposedly, according to news reports, they threaded up a reel for their late movie that was supposed to be some flick with Lloyd Bridges. The film can was labeled as such, but the reel turned out to be porno. It ran for almost 20 minutes before anyone found anything amiss. (Hard to believe, but maybe ad breaks were few and far between late night on a new UHF, and the night op started the film, then went and took a nap or something...)
