Early, but...AM Frequency of The Week: 830

Disclaimer: I'm doing it early because I'm leaving tomorrow to go to family down in Yakima...AGAIN. Taking the Grundig G5 to see what I get! I got several new AMs like 630 CHED, 750 KOAL-UT and 870 KLSQ-NV down there, so it should be good! I'm trying the upper part of AM more than lower part, but you never know. Will be gone for 5 days, 4 nights between Thursday and Monday.

Anyway...what have you guys picked up on the big 8-3-0?

I've gotten the following from Bothell
CKKY Wainwright, AB (Country)
KNCO Grass Valley, CA (News/Talk)
WCCO Minneapolis (The Big 8-3-0 News/Talk, only caught once or twice, rare catch)

I think I have picked up WCRN on 830 from Worcester, Mass on some nights.

830 here during the daytime is usually dead unless you have an excellent radio. The closest stations are Miami (1000 watts) and WTRU.

WTRU comes in usually starting around 7 at night, and comes in all night here with their 10,000 watt signal. It is dominant through much of the Carolinas. I haven't heard WCCO but maybe two or three times, all on cold winter early mornings.

For me near El Cajon / La Mesa, CA, 830 is usually KlAA day and night. Their day signal is about 28-30dBuV on my Tecsun PL-380.
I've also heard WCCO once or twice in KLAA's null, and I think I've also heard an 830 from Arizona or Colorado, but I can't remember which one.

Only 12 mi or so from WCRN. Signal is a monstah towards Beantown and to the NE but I've picked up WCCO Minn only 40 mi or so to the SW of Worcester MA (some mixing w/ WCRN and clear as a bell 3 AM in Clinton CT in 2005. Both w/ ID's.

Here outside Columbus, Ohio, it's WOSU hash from sunrise to Dallas sunset (usually 45-60 minutes after dark here if not more), then all WCCO.

Here in Warminster, PA, its WEEU from Reading most of the time. Before WEEU went on 830,
I have heard WCCO and a Cuban station there at night.

Nothing here in northern VA on days; at night it's WCCO. In some mornings I get a weak reception of WEEU in Reading, PA. I just went down to Marion, NC (60 miles NW of Charlotte), I got a weak reception of WTRU Kernersville, NC (near Winston-Sallem) during the day but not WCCO at night. WTRU instead. I was in a motel full of RF interference, also I was few blocks from a local AM tower.

Nothing days here in SW Ohio.

Nights, WCCO ususlly dominates, but WTRU is often the dominant station early evenings.

Have ID'd WKTX, a 1kw daytimer in Cortland, OH at their sign-off.

I occasionaly ID WEEU ind PA.

Are you sure, with that Cuban? The lone Cuban I have listed, is the 1kW CMFB located at Cienfuegos...that would be quite the catch!

Here, in eastern Ontario, WCRN comes in the strongest, WEEU drops in for visits around sunset, while WCCO pops in later in the evenings.

I'll keep my ears open for any Spanish on the band, could be an interesting catch, where ever it's coming from. :)

From Fresno/Clovis CA, Mostly KLAA in Los Angeles, and also KNCO Grass Valley CA.

The "Cuban station" might not be a Cuban after all....could be WACC 830 Hialeah FL, Spanish religious. However they only run 1 kw at night.

As one might expect, 'CCO usually puts in a fine nighttime signal here northwest of Chicago.

My favorite 'CCO story......

I used to get into the Twin Cities every couple of months on business trips. One time, about 15 years ago, I was up there when the Twin Cities Reader (weekly alternative newspaper) was out with their annual "Best Of" awards. WCCO was chosen "best oldies radio station". Huh??? Actually, this was a dig at their dated programing/older demos. The explanation given was whenever you tune in, "It's always 1953 and everybody feels good".
