Early Morning News Shows

MSNBC, or as some call it, the “Obama Channel” features a program called “Morning Joe” , which is a mediocre replacement for Don Imus. At least Imus was somewhat entertaining; Joe and Mika remind me of a married couple on the verge of a divorce. The third guy, whatever his name is, might as well be a cardboard cutout for what value he brings to that program.

FOX and Friends: You have one guy who looks like Ryan Styles (formally of the Drew Carey Show and now featured on Two and a Half Men) sitting next to some leggy blonde and another guy who walked off the set when Chris Wallace took that morning crew to task for bashing Obama for two hours. The three of them are neither journalists nor very good hosts. It’s time FOX management replaced this trio.

CNN: At least this network tries to stay away from the “happy talk” format and offers news during the morning.

CNN Headline News with Robin Meade: Another attempt by the “Chicken Noodle Network” to make a celebrity out of one of their news anchors. Personally I don’t believe neither Britney Spears nor Paris Hilton should be considered news worthy.

The CBS Morning Show: My advice, dump it and replace it with reruns of the previous night’s David Letterman Show. At least they would get some ratings.

Good Morning America & The Today Show: Both shows are the best of the lot.

Hi everyone:

The problem with GMAToday, the piece of crap on CBS & the real morning shows on the cable news channels is that UNLESS YOU LIVE ON THE EAST COAST, neither are LIVE & LOCAL like the ones on FOX, CW and some MyNetwork TV O&Os & affiliates are. Same holds true with the network shows vs. local newscasts on some independent stations too.

Which is why the network early morning shows don't get nearly the numbers they did as late as FIVE YEARS AGO.

Add this to the fact that the networks would rather give you a bunch of blather about the economy and politics rather than let local affiliates feed you with information with more important information such as TRAFFIC & WEATHER and is it any wonder why some stations have resorted to putting that on an HD subchannel and Digital Cable when they SHOULD be ALLOWED BY LAW to give it to you in person? It shouldn't be.

JMO....

Cheers :D

For my non-hard news morning show, I watch Mike and Mike on ESPN2. By the way, how is the Mike and Juliet Morning show doing ratings wise? I like how they go in depth with a hard news headline for 20 min with different viewpoints on the matter, then a practical life application for the middle 20 min (like credit and housing reports), and then the last 20 min devoted to celebrity stuff.

Before Don Imus was fired from MSNBC around this time last year, I would tune to his show every so often just to see how cranky and mean the cowboy would get to his guests, even to his own staff.

As for Morning Joe, I don't like Mika's "You guys!" (and the head shaking or signs of frustration that comes after) or the "Why Am I Here?" whining attitude. That gets old after a while kind of like the video packages they and just about every other morning show runs into the ground.

Please send them all your resume and video package then. Good luck!

I'd love for the originating poster to shoot me the names of five people who refer to MSNBC as "The Obama Channel".

Funny. I could swear that's what FOX NEWS is. They always seem to find some reason to plaster his face on there.

Makes me wonder if he's just a propaganda figure for the politically Right Wing which the Bush Administration just loves to prop up whenever and as they see fit..

Cheers :D

...I've turmed the TV off and tuned in Stephanie Miller on the radio* instead ;-) ...

*In the interest of openness, I happen to do a program on Stephanie's Phoenix affiliate, KPHX...

I'm not the originating poster, and I've only heard one person refer to MSNBC that way, but....it is pretty clear that Keith Olbermann, among others, appears to be leaning strongly towards Obama and is disportionately harsh on McBush, er, I mean McCain and even on Billary, er, Hillary. Although his interview of Hillary several days ago on his Countdown show was what I would call fair and could have been a lot more critical. As an Obama supporter I have no problem with Keith but at times his bias does get a bit old I must admit. Not that I'd miss a show however.

In fairness, Countdown is not billed as a hard news show and is largely opinion in the same vein as Fatbaugh, O'Really and others. I think the right wing nutjobs may be having a hard time getting used to the lefties on radio seeing as the lefties seem less inclined to drool and slobber over their microphones while ranting. I've often wondered how the cameras manage to maintain stability when Fatbaugh's jowls vibrate so violently. ::)
