The trend in TV has come down from larger markets where two hour commutes are part of parcel of every day. Not unusual to be up and about at 4:30 if you live in CT and work in NYC.
Probably works dynamically and sales-wise in New York, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, LA, San Diego and Seattle. Someone would have to prove to me that it makes sense in this market. This sounds very much like a consultant decision driven from the top rather than a local idea.
Radio isn't making the switch, not even in the big markets.
