Early NFL Network Coverage

Going from the old forum we can cleary now pin point how and what happend

pre 1961:

First off

THE OLD ABC Network had a Game of the Week deal similar to MLB pre

1961.

Buy 1950 however most of the teams west of here weren't getting in the

action and the exposure of the old ABC at best was like there AWFUL

coverage before and after the super bowl.

The LA Rams, San Francisco 49ers, and The Redskins broked away from the pact

in 1950 all together.

Then in 1951 I'm able to pinpoint that Dumont had the Packers, Lions, Giants,

Eagles, maybe the Colts, and Steelers.

The following year, both Chicago teams (Bears and Cardinals) got deals

with ABC.

By 1953, the Rams and the 49ers made the move to Dumont (All spectulating)

In 1954, the Redskins had a 1 year deal with ABC.

Then in 1955, Dumont gave most of its rights to CBS. (Rams, Redskins, Colts,
Packers, Lions, 49ers)

Then in 1956, CBS got what was left over from ABC and Dumont to get 11 out of

12 teams as the Browns were the only one not televising their games on a

network. Thus explaining why the NFL gives CBS credit as they were

the only network to have every network NFL game televised on a selective

basis.

Of course nothing lasts forever and in 1960, the Colts and Steelers jumped

ship to NBC for two years.

Then of Course came 1962 when CBS won the rights to all 15 teams of the

NFL since Minnesota and Dallas didn't have TV deals.

So that's it in a nut shell

Any suggestions are welcomed to be opened up.
