Early Show vs. CBS This Morning

Personally I think it is a good show. Hard news, great interviews, and far less "fluff" that what GMA and Today offers.

Hopefully CBS executives will give this program the chance to gain an audience before another make-over is in the works.

I have never watched morning television = but I'm a great admirer of Charlie Rose - from his PBS show and his contributions to 60 Minutes. He must really class-up the joint.

Whether or not that translates into ratings success, I have no idea.

There are a number of cities where CBS is #1 in the morning (New Orleans, Buffalo, Salt Lake among others).and nationwide the 3 network morning shows are really not that distant from each other.

I like the new CBS show, but am puzzled by having it led by Charlie Rose. He is good, but even if it echoes a hit, he's only there for 5years at the most (he's 70 years old) so I don't quIte understand the choice. Erica is great...I liked her as Anderson Coopers co-host on CNN.

I'd like to know how the new show is doing in Hartford. Believe it or not The Early Show was often number 1 in the ratings.

Not surprised by that as WFSB is #1 in the morning. I have a feeling CBS This Morning will do well in Connecticut due to the fact former WFSB anchor Gayle King is part of the new morning show.

Agreed about Erica, but I don't understand your problem with Charlie. I'm actually surprised he's 70 - he seems younger - but so what? Regis Philbin made it to 80 on his show and could have continued if he'd wanted to. So if This Morning is a success and Charlie wants to do it, he could continue for 10 years or more. In television, that's a lifetime.

Nothing personal about Charlie...I said he was good, But any anchor commitment has to be long term to develop a loyal audience. And the show does need a dose of youthful energy...I miss Hannah Storm, Jeff Glor and Russ Mitchell...even Susan Molinari.
The best 2 big 3 morning shows IMO are GMA Saturdays (perfect chemistry) and CBS Sunday Morning (great journalism).

Charlie's PBS program has become iconic. As strange as it seems, perhaps CBS was hoping to capitalize on that.
