Early thoughts on The Coyote?

As I'm not a country listener, I'm curious what others think of the Coyote thus far. Beasley seems to be aggressively promoting it on TV (although who knows how long the campaign the last?)...I'm just wondering if the playlist is appealing to those who listen to country. I'm happy to see someone take on KWNR (its about time someone challenges the market leader)....and I'm curious on what everyone thinks of their chances for success?

I've been a long believer that if someone took on Clear Channel, they could win with aggressive programming and promoting. The Coyote seems to be playing some great country music and aiming towards the demo it has targeted, 25-54. Playing Keith Urban, Tim McGraw and others will bring them the cume they desire to get (Woman). I sure hope Beasley kicks some royal but on C.C. I would like to see KWNR eat some dust as the competition brings it on. I also hear talent will be on as soon as Nov 10th. I wonder who they have going for them. I hear all the staff at KJUL was let go. We'll all have to find out!

> Promotion, Promotion, Promotion, the tv spots are nice, 95.7 the bear (bonneville) in san francisco used the same tv spot producer and just changed the logo. 1043 seems like an odd frequency though, there are some good and BIG country shows coming to vegas in the coming months and the coyote needs to really "blow out" the ticket giveaways.....have a cool morning show, afternoon drive and evening host, and a cool street team, really hit the clubs NOT just the car dealerships like CC does, hang out at country bars like gilley's over at the frontier. Really make the station seem like they care about the listeners, then they should succeed, but their coyote LOGO needs working on, kinda lame if you ask me, but then so is KWNR's logo. you would think CC could put some money into a cool lookin LOGO.

KWNR's logo perfectly fits the radio station. It just screams out "LAME."

I think the music is pretty solid. The imaging, I think is kind of weak. I was hoping for some creativity. I like "The Coyote" as a moniker but "Coyote Country" sounds cheesy to me.

I think you guys are right thought...how much marketing money are they going to spend to unseat WNR? Battles against heritage stations, especially country, can be difficult, not to mention expensive.

>I believe they have to get a much cooler logo to compete, and it's bad when you say "coyote twice", why not call it "vegas country" 104.3 FM and leave it that OR 104.3 the coyote LAS VEGAS' country!!! It is bad also if you try to confuse the listener.:) are the call's going to stay the same???

It will be interesting to see the competition between the two country stations. Keep us out of staters infomred :)<P ID="signature">______________

Is Country the sort of format where only one station usually wins out?

Especially in a market like Las Vegas--growing in exponents, but also heavily Urban and Hispanic..just how much of an audience can a second country station count on?

It comes back to funadmentals..don't attack the leader until all your elements are in place..and working..sounds like that's not really the case here..

There can be room for two good programmed country stations in both Las Vegas and Reno. Look at the Reno war between KBUL and KUUB. Closer than anytime in history. KBUL has always been the leader, however with a very weak morning show the past year since TOM and TANNER left, KBUL opened the door for direct competition from KUUB and they have soundly defeated the current KBUL morning show. KWNR's morning show is weak at best with Brooks and Mitch Kelly. It's a sports, let's go drinking tonight type show. Winning by default. Now that there's another station playing basically the same music, and soon with an airstaff, the shares for KWNR will fall just like KBUL did in Reno. It will be a great battle no matter what, and one worth watching in both towns.
