It felt like a very large person was under my bed trying to stand up. Then it did it again.
..."Come-a-long-a-baby...Whole-lotta'-shakin'-goin'-on!" My friends pets were at their un-normal selves last night.. Now we know why! My cat just meowed and gave me the look as if to say: "I tried to tell you it was coming!" One old abandoned building was roped off.. Bunch of gift shop antiques still in it, though never open.. We had an old bank building that fell one Sunday after Church, due to the constant trains rolling by on the CSX tracks... It had been vacant for years and just imploded... Funny! That's how we get ride of old buildings in this coal mining town.. Implode and colapses, or burns down when they can't pay the mortgage... :
My wife heard it here just northeast of downtown Cincinnati just after 5:30 A.M. (E.D.T.). I was still asleep. She thought it was something running up on the roof (squirrel, etc?). There is no report of any real damage in this area. There was a further report of an aftershock felt in portions of Cincinnati late this morning.

Well, it woke my azz up, I wasnt sure what the heck was going on, I turned on the tv and soon found out. Im located in central Indiana about 25 miles south of Indy, and 15-20 miles north of Boomington.

It sounded like somebody jumping up and down on the roof this morning. Once I heard the birds chirp, I knew exactly what it was. Kinda neat.
I understand that the center of the quake was in Illinois.
There is a fault line that runs from Kentucky to southern Indiana. I remember as a kid in Connersville, one Staurday getting hit with an earthquake. My Parents had a GE Estate Range. This thing was HEAVY! I watched as it danced across the kitchen floor.

All Access news has a link to audio from WZPL's Smiley morning show talking about it as it happened and taking calls...pretty good stuff.
14 WFIE had a promo going by 11 am saying they were on the air first.
Their morning show starts at 4:30, and the quake struck at 4:37. They were in a weather segment, and the weather guy said something like "either we're having an earthquake, or it just got really windy". They were cutting into the TODAY show off and on all morning.

Indiana does not come to mind when you think of earthquakes But, in 1811 and 1812 the worst
quakes in US history struck here. Three of them were a nine plus on the rector scale.
So, we must wonder. Did the 5.2 quake take pressure off the plates and delay the big
one by 100 years? Or, did it make things more unstable? The big one could by very soon?
Insurance companies won't sell coverage for at least the next 30 days.

Well the big one can just wait till im dead, or at least moved out the area. Large Quakes scare the Shiznit outta me. Not to mention what it did to my poor kitty cat.
I thought it was ridiculous that I turned on RTV6 between 8:30 - 9 AM that morning, and they were not with Good Morning America, but instead an extended "EARTHQUAKE!!!" "Apocalypse Now!" edition of Good Morning Indiana, complete with a scrolling ticker which actually contained quite reassuring headlines like "Small amounts of earthquake damage reported across Central Indiana." But the graphics package and the fact they were still in breaking news mode, made it seem like Godzilla had visited Indy.richmcdonald said:
