EAS>EAN |?| Old SAGE vs. Burk box

I've been asked to help a small broadcaster for help confirm that his Burk is ready to receive the upcoming EAN. Sadly, the Burk has no recent history of working.

So, my choices:
  • Swim through the 160 page manual for the Burk and hope for the best.
  • Resurrect a known working brown Sage.

I know where I can find a slightly used HollyAnne.... ::)
I say "slightly used" because

Man. I just got rid of our old Burk. I was a huge POS. I think all EAS units by default should repeat the EAN, but who knows with that thing. I'm just glad we finally was able to eliminate ours.

The answer to all eas people that are desperate...and a little patient to learn it: Digitial Alert"...and no, I have no conection with them. When installed...flawless....YMMV...JBI

Tom, Start calling around your market and see if one of the big boys will take pitty on you and loan or give you an old Sage. You'll be a LOT happier. With that being said, I don't know much about the other new unit we have a few people talking about. It might be wonderful... I have no opinion on it. I do however like our new Sage units. They are great accept for the input level issue. If a guy doesn't mind figuring out how to pad the input to get it within range on many sources, it's just fine.

reprogramming Old SAGE

I got my fat fingers on the Sage and reviewing the manual; I've configured the area(s) to include Seward County, Kansas and Texas County, Oklahoma (monitoring NOAA wx radio from Amarillo) and I've changed the Call Sign.

I plan on recording a leadin audio segment onto the NV memory.....

What else is worthwhile....
