1. It's not the "Emergency Broadcast System" anymore
2. I don't think the FCC liked those back then
3. That's the funniest thing I've ever heard (better than "That was a test of the Emergency Alert System. Had this been a real emergency, you'd be screwed" on a local rock station)

It might be good AND funny to run before or after, however, you must still conduct the legal EAS test as well. The real EAS test has data in both the header and end coding that must be transmitted.

I can just imagine the reactions I'd get on my AM religious teach/talk...

I so want to run this now...<P ID="signature">______________

I always played the Frasier EBS bit after a test....but I didn't have a choice in when to play the bit because the EAS unit would override the board output until it was done (which is how it's supposed to work, right?).<P ID="signature">______________

Nope, if you have a full time staffed facility, you can run EAS in Manual, thus you can operate EAS as an input on the board. However the rules require that any audio be interupted so that the EAS audio is the sole audio on the air.

However there are stations that still "MIX" the EAS audio, which is illegal.

I'm guessing this is a popular thing to do on rock stations, huh? I heard it on WXRX/Belvidere-Rockford ( (and sister AM WNTA Rockford) is LP2 in the area, WZOK(FM)/WROK(AM) is the LP1)

"...This concludes our test of the emergency broadcast system.
Had this been a real emergency, your radio would be melting in
your hands

That quote was from one of the funnier episodes, "The Matchmaker" in 1994... here's the complete script:

Methinks there was a all-singing EBS test oh, maybe 20+ years ago(help me out here people)
on a disc called "L.A. Air Force"(Farce)?

Anyone still have that one?<P ID="signature">______________

Yes, actually the singing EBS test came from the "Cheap Radio Thrills" production library, the company was called LA Air Force. I've have that one stashed away in the closet.

And yes, it is still available.
