East Alabama radio personality dies suddenly

Donnie Wells Jr., better known as Slyder on Rock 105.9 & Rock 98.3, died suddenly on Monday. Donnie had also worked for me at WVOK-FM and was at JSU's campus station WLJS for a few years. He was on the air Saturday and Sunday then suffered a seizure and heart attack Monday morning. He was 26.

Donnie was one of the few young people that showed the passion for radio and work ethic that most of us veterans used to get where we are today. He wanted to do anything he could to help the radio station, not just the stuff that seems glamorous. Whenever I called to ask him if he would be available to do something he responded "why are you asking? You know the answer." And I did know.

Donnie, you will be sorely missed.

That is so sad...being so young, too, only 26. Just goes to show you none of us know when we're going to be taken out of this world and each of us need to be prepared ahead of time for eternity. We just never know...

There's a nice tribute of him on the rock983.net website. Do they know yet why he might have had a seizure and heart attack at such a young age?

Things like this just push the point even more how important it is to be prepared. You never know when your final days will be, or what hour you will be called away from friends and family.
