East Central Mississippi Openings

Anyone know of any openings in either oldies, hot ac, or news/talk stations in the Meridian area (and surrounding counties in either Mississippi or Alabama)? I'm just getting back into radio after about 15 years, but I'd like to move back toward the Mississippi area... my girlfriend is living in Bailey (north of Meridian on Dekalb/Lauderdale county line), and we're getting pretty serious. The drive is killing us on weekends, and we'd like to find a solution to that, which would require my moving from where I live now to that area. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

OH, btw... NO CrapChannel stations... they're killing the local station and I want NO part of it.

The Clear Channel cluster wasn't half bad when I was there. It may say Clear Channel on the checks but I'd hardly say the place is corporate. The GM was really good, fair and never treated us like we were a dime a dozen. Hell, it was nothing for him to be cooking burgers for us on the grill in the back.

As for any actual openings in Meridian, unless you want to work for Eddie Holladay or WMOX, you'd almost have to apply at Clear Channel. I know the Classic Hits station was taken off the bird earlier this year. I hope that helps somewhat.

Oh, I forgot: You could try WZKR (103.3), owned by Art Matthews and Al Brown. I don't know if they moved but I know their studios were located by Rush Hospital when I was working in Meridian.

Jonathan is correct - the CC cluster is run by Ron Harper (good guy). Try sending a note to Wayne Sheffield, he's about the only PD there, thought, that has sense God gave a goat. (CC also has great bennies - if that girlfriend turns into a WIFE, you'll want that)

Hey Quazar, do we know each other? Even if not, feel free to email me, I'm sure we could trade some stories about Ron! jonathan at wild963 dot com (I'm sure you can figure out how that's supposed to be--damn spam).
