East Coasters!

11:50pm.

Watched the 1st 10 minutes of Leno and now the first 5 minutes of Letterman.

Already getting more laughs out of Letterman (with his beard) than Leno.

Hillary Clinton actually opened Letterman's show (on tape) by saying something like: "Dave has been away for 8 weeks because of the writer's strike. But now he's back. All good things must come to an end". (Ba bum bum)

Yup, Dave has a beard and moustache (all gray). Paul Shaffer is still bald. ;D Dave did his usual quickie few jokes of a monologue, then headed to the desk to thank the WGA for allowing his writers to come back.

Now it's the Top Ten List: Demands of Striking Writers (with actual striking writers). The writers are from the following shows:
-Daily Show with John Stewart (2x)
-Colbert Report (2x)
-Daytime tv
-Law and Order (2x)
-actor/writer Nora Ephron
-Late Night with Conan O'Brien
-author Alan Zweibel

Robin Williams now making his appearance. All hell should break loose at this point. :D

And while I was watching Letterman, my DVD recorder failed to kick in in time for the start of Leno! Any west coasters up for a trade? :)

Mr Fybush, for your column, I hope you saw the post (not mine) on the Boston radio board regarding Bruce Palmer and WSRS/Worcester.

Dave is now telling us what they might be doing if the writers werent back.

It's called Know Your Staff.....and.....It's Hal Gurnee's Network Time Killers. Hal was Dave's original producer (director) from his Late Night/NBC days. Funny thing is....Hal is dead. Died a few years ago. Hal is back from the dead. Funny stuff. ??? :D

Gotta head to bed now. Someone else can review the last 20 minutes of the show.

I didn't know he died.
I guess they had an old tape lying around some place or something, perhaps shortly before his passing because he didn't look young...unless he also looked that old back in 1988...? (and it was an old tape?)

No No NO! Hal Gurnee is NOT dead!! He is retired. They used the Hal Gurnee Network Time Killers back when the writer were on strike during the NBC Late Night Show. Very similar to the modern 'Is This Anything' bit. Which Leno stole and calls his version, "Does this impress Ed Asner"

But anyway Thank you everyone for the updates!

Sorry, thought Hal had died. Maybe I was thinking of former announcer Bill Wendell. Didn't he die??

So that was REALLY Hal Gurnee?? He un-retired just for that bit?? :D

I saw bits and pieces of both Leno and Letterman. I noticed that Jay mentioned his wife Mavis as part of his writing team, I believe jokingly. I have never heard Jay mention his wife on the Tonight Show before and if he has, it is rare. I wonder if Jay had a beard before he shaved it off, would have been interesting to see what he looked like with a beard.

As for Letterman, I thought he looked a lot like Kenny Rogers with the solid gray beard he has going for him.

Didn't watch Conan or Kimmel, did either one have beards?

He's mentioned Mavis before, probably not very often though. At least one time (not sure about more than that), she was on the show with him when it aired live one year on New Years; they kissed or hugged or toasted or something...some kinda interaction, anyway.

The 10pm anchorwoman here in DFW said he looked like Santa Claus! :D

May be nothing...but I wonder why NBC constantly refers to "Jay and Conan" , but makes no mention of "The Tonight Show" or "Late Night".

Yes, Star Power, I know...but I still think of 1135 as "Tonight"...yeah going back further than Jays predecessor.
