East Texas AM Format Flip

C

Guest
For those of you who may be interested, a format flip has taken place on the East Texas AM radiowaves.

Apparently, the FORMERLY licensed KOFY/Gilmer 1060AM has flipped from Spanish whatever-they-were-doing to simulcasting KZEY/Tyler 690AM.

In usual MRS style, the signal was overmodulated, severely distorted and the transmitter sounded like it had a short in it or something else that messed with the power. One minute it was full quieting...the next it sounded like it was coming from St. Louis or somewhere distant.

Someone riddle me this....how can a station whose license expired and was not renewed continue for so long like this??

I'm securely positioned behind an asbestos wall, so fire away!

Arrogance and ignorance as exhibited by MRS is an explosive combination. And it's about to blow up in Jerry Russell's face.

Perhaps the FCC would appreciate a heads up on what's going on. The commission, granted, is pretty much inactive even with such egregious displays of neglect, but some things even the FCC can't overlook. A perfect opportunity for the agency to levy some heavy fines, although MRS would probably in an historic move take the insanity defense.

Yes! That Russell and his MRS cohorts were crazy enough to buy all these stations on a egomaniac spending spree, then destroy each station one by one deserves to be straitjacketed and locked up in Rusk State Hospital. :)

That the FCC hasnt busted down the door of the KOFY transmitter and shut the whole station down for good is a mystery. There is no excuse for a 10K station still illegally on the air at night broadcasting nothing but noise. And theres no excuse for MRS not being able fix thier transmitter problems. If you dont have the money or dont have the know-how to run a radio station - SELL IT.

KOFY is a perfect example that nobody in Longview/Tyler/Marshall radio cares about thier AM stations except for Gleiser, Hanszen and Salt of the Earth.

Rusk State Hospital accepts the criminally insane and those who show rehabilitative promise. Russell and his cohorts passed both those requirements a looooonnnnnnnnng time ago. MRS is drifting in a cerebral great beyond yet to be defined and addressed by even the best minds in psychology.

Agreed on all accounts. Russell is still putting his ignorance to the wind and announces, "We are going to bootleg KZEY's programming to a much stronger frequency and signal on KOFY! That way we can really make some motha#$*%in' money."

Yeah, right...and watch the FCC break your foot off in your @%%, Jerry!

His company should have a slogan: "MRS Ventures...where bootleg broadcasting is our specialty!"<P ID="signature">______________

Doubt he made the decision to do this. The disaster that is KZEY-KOFY is what happens when you have people with zero radio experiance running things and the ownership doesnt care. I bet about the only airstaff KZEY has now is the secretary.

Old or busted equipment, no local engineer, a trickle of money coming in to pay the electric bills and payroll, and the owner is miles away and won't return phone calls. I've been in that situtation too many times before and its one of the reasons I got out of the radio business.

Interesting, indeed. I can't seem to find anything by the number listed. Must be a well-guarded secret.<P ID="signature">______________

Apparently, the same thing happened a few days later with DKZEY. RECNet is showing DKZEY to be operating under an STA but again...no mention of it elsewhere. Also, RECNet is not showing KWRD/Henderson to even be in the database even though I remember seeing their license being (albeit late) renewed via an FCC Daily Digest.

Things that make you go, "Hmmmm...."

Chuck of KZQX radio posted that info back in november, here's the thread.

KOFY's transmitter was off this weekend and monday (Jan 23) maybe it finally died after broadcasting nothing but noise for a whole week? ;)

A quick snapshot of the KOFY tower and transmitter building I took back in october on a cloudy day.
