Still wondering who bought KBHT. Heard there may be new management at KYYK in Palestine.

Check Friday's Kilgore News Herald for info about big changes that might happen in the reserved (educational) band. Thr rumors are flying, but I can't comment until the official announcement, assuming it actually happens.

Can't say I'm wild about it though....
______________

Chuck, if you are referring to the possibility that Kilgore College might sell KTPB, the story is in today's Longview News-Journal

The name of the potential buyer has remained secret.

My guess Jimmy Swaggart or K-Love

I saw something earlier today that didn't have Hightower's name associated with it. Seems as though it was a two-name name and one of the names was Leis.
______________

My guess is that they don't want people sticking their noses into the transaction.

In any event, guess we'll find out soon enough.

KYYK was sold last year, sometime prior to football season. New management took over last summer/fall. All in all, it was not a bad thing, as programming and operations seem to be right on track at KYYK. I have not received any resumes of current employees over there.

KYYK seems to be doing well. Sometimes, however, I wish I could have one more shot at being the PD of that station. (I said sometimes). I just hate that my programming was nuked by Russell's financial delinquency.

Back to KTPB, I sure hope it is not going to be a repeater for a religious broadcaster. If the station is going to go Christian, the least they could do would be to program it locally. (I like KVNE, KSWP, KBJS for that reason.)

I think LeTourneau University put in an application a few years ago for 91.7. Not sure what ever happened to it. Maybe they will end up as the buyer for 88.7

It would most likely be a Christian format, but LeTourneau has some history with running radio stations. In the 1950's, then LeTourneau Institute put KLTI 1280 on the air, which eventually become KLUE. In the 80's, they ran a common carrier station that I think was called KLTC. It was only receivable on campus. Rumors were that the university shut it down because of objectionable material that was being aired by the student airstaff.

My thoughts are similar to yours. I wouldn't hold my breath though. I hope we are all pleasantly surprised.

It's been some time since I've been able to post, but that seems to be resolved. As I was saying, KTPB will be sold to Educational Media Foundation, who's K-Love format has found its way into radio stations and translators all over the country. I believe the sale price is $2,400,000 paid over ten years. Please note that is not at all the same thing as a lump sum payment of $2.4 million. I didn't know Kilgore College was in the finance business. It remains to be seen what EMF will do with the station, but I'll be surprised if there is any local origination when the dust settles. I guess we'll see.Chuck/KZQXwww.kzqx.com
