Eastern Iowa Ratings

What's everyone's thoughts on the upcoming numbers for Waterloo/Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids?? Anyone care to venture a guess at who is up and who is down and why? Here are a few of my thoughts:

1. Q92.3 (AC) in Waterloo/CF will have a HUGE book and, along with the market domination of KOEL-FM (Country) will virtually wipe the Bahakel stations (KFMW - agnst rock is down all over the country, and KOKZ - they still have no freaking CLUE what they are doing) off the radar. KCVM will continue to wollow at the bottom. (Why?? - See KOKZ). Oh yeah...and KCRR will maintain it's mediocre ratings despite a lack of talent on-air.

2. This may be a huge surprise....but I think KHAK (Country) might give some ground to Z102.9, although they will hang on to a slimming overall lead. The KHAK morning show (Bear and Brain) have lost a bit of zest and become rather bland. But then again...isn't that what they do best? Look for Mix 96.5 to drop a bit and KDAT to regain what it's lost over the last few books. If the Fox takes a dump, which it very well may, look for KRNA to pick up a few points.

Overall, I cannot recall ANY station doing ANYTHING memorable this past Spring and that sucks. Just my thoughts.

The Stick

PS - Oh yeah...and in Iowa City the "mighty" KCJJ will again fail to show up in any ratings that actually matter, but Captain Steve will continue to makes his "millions". LOL!

So what is your prediction? KOEL (K98.5) first and Q92.3 2nd, or do you see Q92.3 taking down KOEL?

Rock is struggling, you're right, and I think we're going to need at least 1 more book to see if the KOKZ experiment is working or not.

It's so nice seeing Stickman alive and kicking :-\
My questions for you this time around big guy are as followed..
What is your beef with Bahakel? Did you get hanted in a dream by Cy himself? All the negitivity toward them man. Your very contradicting in your statements:
"rock is down all over the country" I agree with your statemet there, but if this is true, how can Rock 108 go down and Krna go up?

"KOKZ - they still have no freaking CLUE what they are doing" Ok, dumb. Have you ever heard of a classic hits format? Compared to other stations across the country that were oldies they are very simalar.

"KCVM will continue to wollow at the bottom. (Why?? - See KOKZ)" This makes no sence at all, first off Mix is an "AC" station nothing like KOKZ, yeah they may play some of the same songs but I still don't recall the last time KOKZ played Backstreet Boys or Madonna. So I don't know how you can compare the two.

From reading your past posts it looks as if you are a Cumuls employee, it just seems they can't do anything wrong. My two suggestions for you are A) Get a job in radio and show us all how it's done, oh mighty one. B) Subscribe to the numbers yourself and get them that way.

Oh yeah Bahakel Waterloo still not sold... man I thought that was for sure going to happen according to "The Stick".

Just my thoughts

P.S. My thoughts on the numbers: Sattilte radio is going to take over the world and radio as we know it will be dead because of the aliens will brainwash us into thinking that global warming is a good thing.

In CR:
KKRQ/The FOX will grow their market share, at the expense of KZIA. Norton still doesn't have a clue.
KHAK will continue to dominate 25-54. Norton still doesn't have a clue.
KDAT and WMT FM will continue to interchange audiences.
KRNA will continue to struggle with their narrowing audience life forms.
KCJJ...who cares? But they're still moving to Coralville, right Steve?

A few responses to iaminradio and his/her questions as to my opinions on the upcoming ratings.

First, just because I think the Bahakel stations will continue to slip in Waterloo/CF and the Cumulus stations will continue to do well does not mean I am collecting a paycheck from Cumulus.

Iaminradio asks how can I say "Rock 108 go down and KRNA go up"? These are two different markets here. Looking at Waterloo numbers, Rock 108 has been sinking like the Titanic for the past two years. That station, at one point, was NUMBER ONE in the market 12+!! What is it now...number 8 or 9?? All I am saying, in regards to KFMW is that the station will continue to go down. As for KRNA, they saw a nice gain last Spring and it was taken away by a great book from the Fox last fall. Hence my reasoning "if the Fox takes a dip...look for KRNA to pick up those numbers."

As for KOKZ, yes I have heard of a "classic hits" format. What they are playing isn't really "classic hits" - unless you can call going from the Rolling Stones "Brown Sugar" into The Outfield's "Your Love" a classic hits format. To me it sounds like a 70's/80's Jack format...and, in my opinion, that won't work.

KCVM, is ALSO all over the road but in a more "vanilla" way...so maybe my criticism of that station was unjustified as I forgot to consider all the nursing homes in Cedar Falls that probably listen.

As far as Iaminradio saying that I think Cumulus can "do nothing wrong"...did you read my comments about KHAK?? Or the tiresome staff at KCRR?? C'mon Iaminradio....read it all.

And, finally, yes, I know Bahakel hasn't sold. I got that information from a sales rep who no longer works there. So obviously she doesn't know what she is talking about. My bad.

The Stick

PS - There will NEVER be a day when more people in this country are listening to satellite radio than commercial radio.

Thanks for the kind words about KCRR. We appreciate being called tiresome, so, in taking your words of wisdom seriously. What are your suggestions to beef the station up. I'll be more than happy to take your suggestions and look at them seriously.

Thanks,

Cory Ford

Nice work on the ratings Mr Ford. In calling your "airstaff" tiresome, I guess I was referring to the fact that you have TWO DJ's and a guy who does then news on the morning show. In that respect, whenever someone is on the air, it's one of two or three and that (to me) is tiresome. It's a lot like eating the same thing over and over again every day. You may enjoy it at first, but after awhile it gets TIRESOME.

Hope your success continues Mr Ford.

I agree with you, to a certain degree. Thanks for the reply, and for my own good, I meant no harm in my replies. We all have to talk like this to get a bit of reality.

Thanks Stick!

Cory

Wow, these are refreshing posts to read. Kudos to you, Mr. Ford, for taking constructive criticism. Especially in this age of trash talk and shoutfests.
