Easy 102.1 changes format?

A few months ago, I was reading where Summit Media was buying the 102.1 translator they have been leasing. That sale was approved about a month ago. However, I read a few days ago that Summit Media was swapping their newly acquired 102.1 translator (selling it to EMF) for the one at 107.3, which is currently rebroadcasting Birmingham Mountain Radio. Easy 102.1's facebook page has disappeared, and 102.1 is airing Air-1 this evening.

The stream was down last night on both the station website and on TuneIn. Stream being online might just be temporary, since both the Easy 102.1 Facebook and Twitter pages have been disabled. WENN-AM broadcasting with no audio again...

It sounded to me like Summit would be getting the translator at 99.1. So, Easy would have a place to go (either there or 100.1) if Summit wanted to keep it.

A friend brought up an interesting observation about this switch up… Summit still has the low power 92.3 translator in Pelham, and it had also been relaying Easy/WENN. So is it still doing that, via WENN and/or WZZK-HD2?

I haven't heard from anyone in the B'ham area with an HD radio for a while, so no idea if Easy is still on the HD2 or just WENN. The listing for WZZK-HD3 being Air1 was based on the license transfer paperwork I saw on the FCC site.

Wikipedia listing for WZZK has Air1 as WZZK-HD3 but 102.1 is IDing as WZZK-HD2, which is what Summit Media was using to feed the translator for "Easy". No idea what is on W222BK anymore. I am too far south to hear it; all i get here on 92.3 is WLWI-FM out of Montgomery.

A friend all the way up in Florence actually got the HD to lock on WZZK this evening. He said the Air1 is on the HD2 and there is no more HD3…

If that is the case and WENN is dead air, I'm calling the Easy format well dead and gone at this point.

The easy1021.com website has been replaced with a flash page, letting listeners know if they enjoyed Easy 97.3 to try their other stations, 97.3 PLAY or 106.9 The Eagle.

That would be yet another signal for Birmingham Mountain Radio. I heard the first, newly-recorded ID at 5:00pm yesterday (Tuesday) and went "hmm".

The Good Doctor to the rescue. Thanks for that info. Perhaps they should market it as "Birmingham Over The Mountain Radio":)

That 92.3 translator is so completely pointless. It doesn't cover enough of the metro to be viable as its own thing, and most of the Red Mountain based translators (including BMR's) completely cover the same territory. It can't move further north due to the Crawford station in Dora… And can't move further south due to WLWI. I have to wonder if at some point it can be sold off and moved a great distance away where some AM could put it to use.

Listening to 102.1 while driving around the OTM suburbs this morning. It's Air1. Pretty sure they're running their live stream straight into the processor. The audio has that gritty, 96k bitrate sound. Lots of potential for this signal, though. 102.1 seems to have pretty good range in south Jefferson County.
