Easy 93.1 playing newer music

nd2023

Banned
Just listened to Easy 93.1 recently and noticed quite a change in the music from just a few months ago. Not as much 60s and 70s, and more 90s and 2000s. When I first heard Easy 93.1 in 2011, I recall hearing almost no music which came out in my lifetime (since 1988). I miss the older music.
Now it sounds like the typical AC station used to sound in the early-mid 2000s. It still sounds better than other AC stations, but I feel like it lost that unique sound that really set it apart.

WFEZ was performing poorly in the PPM ratings which is why the music was updated to a more up tempo and newer music style, targeting a younger listening audience. However, I agree, WFEZ had a very unique sound with its older softer hits. I personally like the older AC, easy listening and traditional beautiful music which is very rare on terrestrial radio today.

I found another soft AC station to listen to instead of Easy 93.1: 94.7 WLIX from Long Island.

Ironically, I will probably never be able to hear WLIX over the air in New Jersey, but I've heard Easy 93.1 a few times via e-skip. In fact, that's how I first discovered the station on July 3, 2011. The songs they played stood out from the rest of the stations, which is why I remembered to listen to it online after the e skip that day.

Now, with the newer music and no more Party 93.1-HD2, WFEZ is no longer special to me.

It seems to be working. Easy is now the #4 - 25-54 station in the market (#3 Mon-Fri) and #2 with women 25-54.
The station is also a finalist for the 2013 Marconi AC station of the year award.

Deleted from my presets now.
I thought this station was doing good.

It had good 6+ numbers, but that was deceptive: most of the listeners were over 55+ and there is no ad revenue for that in transactional markets like Miami.

They moved to newer music to lower the age of their listeners.

Does that mean if I listen to their newer music I'll get younger? ;D :D

If you become younger as a result of listening to the newer WFEZ, please let me know so I can take advantage of the metaphoric radio fountain of youth, too. ;)

Easy is still a unique listen that plays music that cannot be heard on AC stations in other markets. Most AC stations in other markets are morphing into 90s and Beyond stations. I like the fact that much from the early 80s can still be heard on Easy - and, maybe not as often, on Lite.

You're right SB! Still beats anything in the city I live in. Even WLTW in NYC plays better music than where I live. There is a lot of good late '80's early '90's A/C music I don't hear anymore. You don't have to go back to the '60's and '70's to find some good stuff IMO.

Exactly. I would give my right arm for a station like this in Detroit - we had one many years ago, coincidentally on 93.1 (now Adult Hits Doug-FM). As long as they stay away from Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga, I won't complain.

Looking at WFEZ Playlist they are rotating about 300 songs now which is way down from when they began their format. I enjoyed hearing some of the 50's and early 60's tunes that they played before. Too bad they changed their playlist. The ststion has become boring for me. Same tunes everyday!
