Could you please provide a link.

For those unsubscribed, an alternate link to the Ross On Radio column on Easy 93.1: http://www.radio-info.com/newsletter/html/ror-01042011.html

Subscribing to the www.radio-info.com/newsletters is free & easy & most of all, recommended. Lotsa good info there whether it's the latest news (Tom Taylor) or various formats (Sean Ross, Phyllis Stark, Dana Hall, Randall Bloomquist) or new technologies & strategies (Daniel Anstandig). I know most folks have inboxes that fill up rapidly, so I can understand if you don't want "just one or two more". But you can pick & choose which ones to get - and you can change subscriptions at anytime.

I went ahead and subscribed yesterday. Thanks for all the info.

No, not @ all. I was just reminded of this funny way to show people how to find things. Just a juke.

in 2001 i was listening to party 93.1 dance music worldwide from reno nevada i live in las vegas now we have a pure dance station 94.5 the vibe staying in sin city maybe forever. las vegas is a nightlife for clubs

If they insist on calling themselves Easy 93.1, as opposed to Easy 93, it seems to me that people will generally go to the website www.easy931.com (instead of www.easy93.com ), only to see the station in N.J.

Maybe WFEZ will pay off the N.J. folks.

Wow, they just reached way back to 1958 for The Teddy Bears' To Know Him Is To Love Him.

Aha....the other 50s songs I have heard were "My Special Angel" by Bobby Helms, and "Mr. Blue" by the Fleetwoods.

I wonder which song, so far, is the most *recent* on their playlist? I've heard "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion (1997), but not sure of anything more recent than that.

cd
OK, somebody also mentioned Breathe by Faith Hill. What songs from the two thousandzies
do you think would fit the format. I haven't given it a lot of thought, but how about
Graduation Friends Forever by Vitamin C, Only Time by Enya, Train's Drops of Jupiter.
Backstreet Boys: Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely. Those are all rather old, too.
More recent ones?

This morning: "Faithfully" by Journey. So much for "easy".....sigh

(They have a sister station 4.2 MHz up the dial.....the above belongs there.)

It was yours truly who mentioned "Breathe." Problem is, there just aren't enough modern artists who will fill the bill on 93.1.....Such is the music biz today.

I wouldn't say "Faithfully" sounds too far off base with this format; I didn't think it sounded out of place when I first heard it on "Easy" a couple of weeks ago. Soft AC's have been offering Journey's "Open Arms" since the format's inception 25-30 years ago. "Faithfully" is along those same lines, musically speaking, IMO. Remember, this format isn't easy listening but soft AC (or "soft oldies" in today's terminology, if you will). It's more along the lines of how soft AC stations sounded 25 years ago, which incorporated quite a bit of lighter AC music in the mix. I can recall hearing our local soft AC station in the mid to late 80's playing Tears For Fears "Everybody Wants To Rule The World". I was kind of taken aback when I heard them play it the first time, but after pondering it, I could see how that song could blend in seamlessly with the rest of the format. I would actually enjoy seeing the "Easy" format opened up even wider with more AC music, such as the song I just mentioned.

All these stations play the same garbage 200 "easy", "lite" favorites. Nothing new here, move along...

I would. Then again, I never said I would listen to this mess.I didn't think it sounded out of place when I first heard it on "Easy" a couple of weeks ago. Screaming guitars are not "easy". Never mind that standards seems to have accepted The Carpenters' "Goodbye to Love".

Absolutely, positively not.

And this is why these formats never work. They always evolve into an even more evil-sounding mess. Yes 94.5 and 107.9 the Coast in SC, for example.

I respectfully disagree.

Evil sounding mess? Not necessarily. When I mentioned about adding more AC music into the mix, I did mean within reason (not within the bounds of a mainstream AC format). Some newer and slightly more uptempo music could be added into the playlist without causing too much listener backlash. In fact, several of the "Easy" listeners joining the station's Facebook group have already expressed they would like to hear some more current music into the mix, as well as artists either not currently being offered very often or at all. Obviously, you can't please 100% of the listeners 100% of the time, and there are aspects of the format I don't entirely agree with, but to me, it's much better than having to listen to today's version of soft AC or mainstream AC.

I agree. "Faithfully" does not belong on that station. It's too intense. Unlike "Open Arms" which maintains a level of mellow throughout, "Faithfully" builds up and if some old lady is tuning in during the last :60 of that song, she'll hobble away.
As for newer music, if they really want to go there they might consider "Home" by Michael Buble or "Back at One" by Brian McKnight. I can agree with "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine, but a lot of her other stuff gets a bit screamy. But their appeal seems to lie in the older stuff they play. They should stick with the gold if they want to stick around.

Personally I don't care for rock power ballads from bands like Journey on stations like this. I can see where it could fit in but songs like that are just too typical and ordinary. They take away from what I would consider a special and exciting listening experience. Yes I used the word exciting..hearing so many songs that are considered taboo to play elsewhere gives me the sensation of eating forbidden fruit.

As much as I don't care for Journey's ballads on soft AC, I do enjoy their songs on classic rock, especially their earlier songs such as "Wheel In The Sky" and "Just the Same Way".

I know most of the soft AC's back on the air during the 80's did not offer "Faithfully" by Journey. Many of them which were on the air in the 90's, though, slowly began to add the song to their playlist as the format evolved. I have always looked at the soft AC format as being primarily a "ballads-based" format. Obviously, not every ballad would fall into the bounds of this format, but I don't believe "Faithfully" is a "must exclude" track for a soft AC format, back then or now. I don't feel it's any more "harder edge" than say, Hall and Oates "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", which was a staple of most of the original soft AC stations and is both on "Easy's and Tampa's "Dove" playlists. I suppose that for Cox it is more advantageous to be conservative and err on the "very easy" side, so as not to try to drive many of the listeners away. Many of "Easy"'s older listeners may have never listened to this particular format 25 years ago in its original form, so to them, not hearing certain tracks is a non-issue since they were never aware of the format's sound back during that time.
