Easy 93.1 tweaks

nd2023

Banned
I noticed that Easy 93.1 changed its imaging and the music is not as old. They use the f word - "fresh" a lot. Thought that was a CBS trademark.

Easy 93.1 is the station to get away from the "fresh" music on all the other AC stations! It still is way better, but not as good as it sounded this summer. Not as many "oh wow" songs.

Not much of a shock. I figured they would tighten up the playlist eventually. They were playing too many songs. Looks like they figured out the best testing titles and stuck to those. There's more 80's in the mix, which makes sense. The 60's and 70's appeal to the 55+ crowd, which they'll get anyway since they're the softest spot on the dial. They need to beef up 45-54, so they can get in on a few agency buys. We'll see if the tweaks help.

The only thing close to an "oh wow" song, IMO, on Easy was on day 1 on Dec. 26, 2010...."My Special Angel" by Bobby Helms.

Why more 80s on a Cox station that already monopolizes 80s on Coast? (Sure, Easy is somewhat softer, but still....)

I know I'm gonna catch it for this----but just because a song is old, doesn't mean it's bad.

Flame away.

Old doesn't mean bad. You just have to play the right older titles. An obscure, minor hit from the late '60's or early 70's doesn't satisfy anyone in 2011. Well, maybe an older music geek who likes the "oh wow" factor of it. He makes up .000001% of the audience. WFEZ is in the business of broadcasting...reaching as many people as they can in their target demos with the most mass appeal songs. Playing a track like "Massachusetts" from the Bee Gees doesn't accomplish this. However, playing Dobie Grey "Drift Away" does.

I understand that....but there seems to be more overlapping w/ co-owned Coast.

My likes are outta radio's demographic anyway. That's where Internet radio comes in! :D

When most of the 'Soft ACs' signed in beginning in the early '80s, at first they stayed pretty conservative. As time went on they eventually began to add more up-tempo songs which were less 'soft' and more 'traditional' AC material. It gets to the point where the music mix resembles that of a mainstream AC. Don't get me wrong, there's a place for that. With that said, I say let the mainstream ACs do their thing and let the soft-hits stations do theirs.

I remember in late 1982 when WKSZ (Kiss 100) first signed on in Philadelphia, they were quite conservative. Then they went more mainstream. The same trend has been repeated again and again. There are just some times that you don't want to deal with the the stuff that the mainstream ACs are playing and you want something mellower. This is true for some of us younger guys too.

Frankly, I think it's ridiculous to create another 'soft AC' only to have it go mainstream in a few months or years. If 'EZ' want's to 'freshen' up the playlist, do it with songs that younger people can relate to but that won't alienate the older folks either; but all in all, keep it mellow. Carve yourself a niche and stick with it!

We agree and I can relate...but you already know that. CD knows more about music than most jocks!

I don't see anything wrong with a catagory of "oh-wow songs" that comes up once or twice an hour. Better than some heavy burned '70's or '80's song that everyone else plays.

Easy tweaks....so does the Coast...it appears Gary Williams has been quite busy. Who would have thought that Usher, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taio Cruz would be heard on the Coast? It's happening... ;)

I must be in the .00001% love the "oh wow", can't stand "Drift Away" ever since the Uncle Kracker version came out. Not saying OTA radio should change, I was involved with music research for several years, radio should play what tests. But for my personal tastes when it comes to any kind of gold format internet radio is far superior. For example I like the "soft oldies" format on boomerradio.com...tons of oh wow.
