EASY 99.1 SOUNDS MADDDDD COOL

Any of you ever listen to this station? It is worth the listen. I be listenning to JJ Auston and Daniel Stevens at night. I listen from about 8pm-2:30am. The music they play is niiiiiceeeee variety. They are actually better then Magic 106.7.
Back when I was in college 1993-1997 99.1 was called "Variety 99.1" simular to what it is now. But back then, everynight at 9pm, they had 99 at 9. They played 99 minutes of music. No commercials from 9pm-10:35pm. It was madddd cool
They still sound good now.
Your thoughts on Easy 99.1?
Thank you

Last time I was down that way was about a year ago. Pleasant mix of music, though I can't imagine it having much appeal to anyone under 35 or so.
They really do need to move the transmitter (or whatever it is that makes all that background noise) out of the air studio so they don't have to do that weird mic processing to try and hide it. It's really annoying.

WOW, someone actually praising this station? I started a thread about it a little while ago and a lot of posters were quick to criticize the station instead!

@Oldbones, I just turned 33 a week ago, and that station appeals to me. I love that music (Except Mitchelle Branch and Jon Secada Music-I do not like both music!!!!) Don't get me wrong. Michelle Branch is SOOOOOO HOTTTTTTTT!!!!!
But I do not like that music. I also do not like Jon Secada music, it sound like he is crying, and to to that, with his accent.
Not good. It make me sad listenning to it
Other then that, 99.1 WPLM is madddd cool
That women on weeknights JJ Austin sound very relaxing the way she talk. That guy who follow her Dan Stevies he sound madddd cool, the way he talk it make you want to listen more and more. he sound like he knows his stuff, they chose the right people to work there. very nice sounding people there.
When you all have a free moment check out that station right quick, let us know what you think?

Thank you

I remember Variety 99.1 too! Though it only lasted until June 1995. It was a Smooth Jazz station after that, until 1999, when it became what it is now. But yes, I do love this station. One of the best, and one of the only true easy listening stations around. They actually play some songs that are hardly played at all anymore, such as "Set the Night to Music" by Maxi Priest & Roberta Flack, "Don't You Know What The Night Can Do?" by Steve Winwood, and many others. I just wish I could get a better signal of it where I live.

I don't know how anyone listens to this station! You can't even hear it in its signal range. And have to disagree about the talent. That guy Dan Stevies you mentioned is awful! He sounds like some creepy snake oil salesman!!! I will stick to Magic or just listen to Yahoo.com. Better music and no annoying announcers! Just my opinion! :-X

Their signal is good, one of the best on the band.

And how. WPLM-FM has always had a real "ballsy" signal. Their audio chain is well processed and the station shows up quite well, regularly, in the Boston and Providence (and even the Worcester) ratings. They've obviously have found their niche. Before 99.5's wideband IBOC (recently) and 99.1 in Henniker, NH hit the air in the mid 80's, WPLM-FM's signal went well into Southern New Hampshire and parts of Southern Maine as well. It's nice to know that at least ONE full-powered mainstream independent FM station still exists in Southern New England. They must be doing something right.

WPLM-FM isn't QUITE a full Class B, right? Today, a full B is 50 kW at 150m (492') AAT, although stations that were running the former Class B maximum of 50 kW at 500' at the time of the rule change were grandfathered. WPLM-FM has had the same power and antenna height since long before 150m became the maximum height for the full Class B 50 kW ERP. This would seem to be an important point for second-adjacent WCRB (FM). AFAIK, WCRB could move from Wood Hill in Andover to the 93.7 stick in Peabody (isn't it?) without getting too close to WERS, which is 10.6 MHz away, but WCRB would then be ever-so-slightly short spaced to WPLM-FM. However, I suspect that WPLM's slightly-less-than maximum Class B antenna height (I think it's 469' AAT) might make it OK for WCRB to not have to slightly reduce its power from the height-adjusted 37 kW that WMKK runs. Can anyone confirm that WPLM's antenna height would, in fact, allow WCRB to move to the somewhat superior (for coverage of Boston) Peabody location while continuing to run at full Class B power?

i don't live in the area, but i used to vacation in the area when my grandfather was alive and living in rhode island. most of my times in that neck of the woods was the mid to late 90s, so WPLM was mainly smooth jazz then. stellar signal. got it loud and clear all throughout rhode island. don't think they should have dropped smooth jazz especially with boston not having a smooth jazz outlet. yet the new format is cool too , i agree with the first poster YET i don't agree with the adding of newer vocals. i think most of the charm of the station is the lost 70s and 80s soft pop, not the newer stuff. also, why is the website always under construction?

Will Easy 99.1 ever fix thier website?

It has been under construction for over a year now. Are they not making enough money to finish constructing the site? It's really ridiculous. And also, they don't sound much different from Ocean 104.7, Magic 106.7, and Lite Rock 105. Just another one of many stations that sound the same. They used to have they called the "unique blend", but not any more. To think that once they actually sounded unique.

>The Saturday night Sinatra Show with Ron Della Chiesa. Is very good.<

A glimmer of a memory from the good old "Music America" back on 'GBH. What were they thinking when they dropped that show?

Not from what I can tell, the station played at least 4 different songs in a row last night that Magic NEVER plays.

Just FYI, when 'PLM flipped, there was another Jazz outlet on 99.5 at the time.

It had been on 99.5, but moved to 96.9 in August of 1997. Then in August of 1999, 96.9 flipped to the Talk format that they have now.

Last I checked, Ocean was actually even softer than WPLM. I think WPLM might be closer to WQRC, though. Because I know that WQRC also plays a lot of obscure songs, but I think they're starting to be more Hot AC-oriented.

Another thing about WPLM, unlike WQRC and Ocean 104.7, their signal comes into Boston quite well. In fact there is a restaurant/fast food establishment that even has their station on as well.
