Easy Rock 105.1

Louisville's "FMTalk 105.1" WLRS goes soft AC/oldies as "Easy Rock 105.1". Thoughts? Some have questioned whether the new format is temporary and only a stunt until a new format is unveiled next wk.

Here's the link:

I hope this isn't a trend.

I just can't enjoy this format without the real standards. Plus anything leaning AC has more of the junk. This morning I heard "Night Fever" on Dial Global, which is sort of good. Also "Nikita". But there was also "Return to Me" at one of those Rod Stewart songs.

As far as the adult standards format goes, I would say it's a trend that more and more adult contemporary music is going to be added into the mix. That probably isn't going to change...although I was also under the (mis)belief that the traditional soft AC format would never recycle again on radio, but it is happening...albeit on a small scale. I was hoping the format would return, but I had my doubts about it. Still, not too many traditional soft AC's back on the air, but even just a few is promising. I'd even be pleased to see the former beautiful music format return to prominence on the radio once again...but I do understand and accept reality. :)

Traditional soft AC stations don't incorporate a lot of adult standards...even the format in its original form two decades ago never incorporated much adult standards material...some, yes, but very limited amounts. I would say, though, that the traditional soft AC stations on the air now offer more adult standards material than the format had 25 years ago. I realize there is some overlap of material between the two formats (adult standards and traditional soft AC), but, personally, I'd rather just hear one format or the other...not a mix of the two genres. I feel much the same way listening to adult standards or Beautiful music (instrumental EZ)...just give me one or the other...and if there is some material of each within the other, keep it to a minimum.

Have you ever tried bigbandsandstandards.com? To me, it is musically similar to the MOYL/standards format that was heard on radio during the 80s.

No sound on my computer and slow Internet.
