Eating Crow in Dothan

As usual, I seem to have been wrong in several places with my predictions. TVY has pulled back up to the Big Dog instead of going further down. KMX did own the younger demos as they should've BUT I was most incorrect (and gladly so) in that John & Dave brought 103.9 to numero uno in the male buying demo??!!! Way to go guys!

Congratulations to all, everyone worked hard at all stations!!

Now, will someone please pass the Tabasco...........

Oh yeah, as most expected woof had the best overall, first in the buying demo and second in the vanity demo. Guess WOOF does prove that if it isn't broken then don't try and fix it. Congrats to all there, all are very solid pros and the Simpsons still put on the best combination of local news, weather, jocks, targeted music, community involvement et al!

WOOF is a well run local station. They have been consistent in a market full of changes.

No surprise they win the money demos.

WDBT is affecting both WTVY and WDJR as the Country shares tighten - but seems to be hurting WTVY more.

WKMX should've gotten a huge bump with WDBT and WLDA out of the 18-34 game from a year ago - and their move back to CHR.

WJRL was a well designed format and was conceptually set to win 25-54 male and take what "Thunder" had and build - which as you said, it did.

Can't believe how WRJM is. For a 100 kw FM Talker, it has really slipped.

Oh yeah absolutely!! Considering that they are 100,000 watts, have one of the top formats in the country and are the only significant station in this market with that format, WRJM is performing very poorly. The problem is that they are whoring out airtime to all of these people who want a 1-2 hour show once a week just to make a few bucks!! There is no consistency on that station, you hear different programs every morning and every afternoon...everyday. It's like you never know what your gonna get ;D They do have several very good syndicated shows that I personally enjoy I do listen pretty often and think they're a decent station. They just need to make major improvments if they want to compete in the top tier in this market.

Anyhow that aside I was way off on my 12+ predictions :( The only stations i had right were WOOF @ #2 and WIZB @ #15. So I was 2 for 15 :'( Well maybe i'll do better next time.

Congrats to everybody who did good ;D

Stewy, do you mind sharing that crow? I guess book numbers like lottery numbers!

Everyone deserve a around of applause! In such a tight market everyone worked hard and it shows!

i'll have bbq sauce on mine, WOW what a book!
i thought kmx would be 6th and take a hit, no hit just gains in every demo and on allmost every day part, killing 18-34 females, the morning show smokin with 25.8..I was wrong, remember these are a average, i'm scared to see what the spring break downs are, kmx with all that gain, the spring must be huge! congrats and my BAD!
WOOF of course kicks arse, they do what they do and do it well,(if it aint broke leave it alone)
WTVY AND WDJR...keep on holding and congrats.
WJRL.. no surprise with john and dave..pro's to say the least
WESP wish it was higher, but not bad long live classic rock!

good job everyone now i must go eat that bird

Congrats to all who did well.

Everyone in Dothan radio works harder than they are required for
less pay than they deserve.

The staff sizes get smaller while the
people writing the checks expect the same results their stations
achieved when they had twice the staff (woof being the exception).

Promotional budgets are archaic notions that collect dust in some
museum next to dinosaur bones and Hank Williams Sr. records (woof being the exception).

It's a bold new world in radio. To even be employed is a helluva accomplishment.

To be graced with positive news from the almighty Arbitron is icing on the cake.

Congrats to all and enjoy.

Well pass me a plate and Congratulations to all !!!

Underestimated TVY (sorry) and also the collateral damage "The Legends" did to DJR
"The Legends" hurt TVY also, but they had more padding and could handle the hit.
WOOF - Awesome - Train keeps a rollin'
WKMX - Not third but gaining ground - good job
WJRL - Need to include Dave in "the worked hard and it will show"

12+ the beauty contest, not where the rubber meets the road

WDJR - Momentum
WOOF - Consistent
WKMX - Hugh teens, especially Coffee County
WTVY - Amie has her groove back, but swapping Elizabeth for Dave will prove costly, her groove is at night.
WZHT - Gotta have their Urban from somewhere
WJRL - John has worked hard and it will show

I might be wrong but if not, I think owners and mgnt needs to take notice........

The top 4 stations are the only stations with (nearly) a full staff..mmmmmm..
with top notch players, Now the others have great people or a person or lots of voice tracking, seems to me i would follow this trend and hire more people and save on buying the new boat and make even more money. just a thought.

2.WOOF 5:30-9 David & Amy, 9-2 Rick,2-7 Laura,7-5:30 A. Jerry, Saturdays Live Various DJ'S Then Tesh Then Jerry ,Sunday's Tesh,Then Amy, Then Brad
6 Jocks Total

3.WKMX-6-10 Squirrell & Kelly,10-3 Stephano,3-7 Bryant, 7P-6A No Jocks Just Music. Saturday's Voice Track During the day (Except During Remotes) Then Music Saturday Evenings Till Canned Show on Sunday Nights at 9 . 4 Jocks Total

Thats why i wrote nearly, but i think you get my point and yes you are right about the smart ones, also take a look at the lower rated stations, most of them are 1-2 people, and i was told by a little CROW..wkmx will be getting more jocks, but for the most part the top 4 are live untill 7p.

Gotta give it to all for some very astute observations. To repeat, it's SO ARBitrary - lots of surprises and interesting shifts in power. Only time will bear it all out, but a leveling of the playing field makes for a fascinating Fall! Once more, my best regards to all of us who struggle daily to make life better for those that are our customers...our wonderful listeners! We few...we happy few...we band of brothers...who've never REALLY worked a day in our lives but brought so much to so many ~

Earlier in the week during my normal morning surf listened to the DJ Search contest on K, started out lame so I surfed but ended back there a few minutes later to hear "Johnathan Radio". Guess it was part of the Search but it was really good! Don't know who the kid was but for the first time in a very long time didn't just smile but actually enjoyed a real belly laugh while listening to the radio. When he went to the "new reporter in the Blakeley Trailer Park, Elmer...Elmer How ya doin? Well I got my sauve on so I'm doin OK" I broke up. The best I've heard in a long time, great bit, it ended they got half way through a Gwen St. song and the transmitter crapped out. When it came back on they were mid sentence talking about the WWP which told me that they still listen through the board rather than a receiver. Anyway, Johnathan Radio was great so if I may be so bold as to ask the Wreck to play more of it...lots more. It was really good, the kinda stuff we all used to hear and produce before the corps took over and cut staffs 40-70%.
