Eating Crow?

I was completely lambasted on this board for the following statements:
1. MOVIN was the format of the future in adult and 18-34 radio
2. The Seattle team was first and many markets will follow
3. Sandusky will spend the money it takes to make this work.
4. Look for steller air-talent after the first of the year
5. KBKS, JACK, KUBE and KPLZ will feel the pain.

Let's see what has happened?

1. MOVIN has been straight up in every trend since it launched in May.
2. Seattle was first and now their are over 20 MOVIN's in major markets and many consulted by the Seattle team. Most led by Alan Burns.
3. Sandusky is spending money like nobodies business. Saw the MOVIN spot on LOST, Greys Anatomy and all over mid-day TV too. They are blowin out the dollars like no other station in town.
4. Air-talent: the search is narrowed and get ready after the first of the year.
5. KBKS and JACK have been down every trend since MOVIN launched.
KUBE got smacked in the last trend and KPLZ fluked a good trend or two.

I am not an iknowitall, more like an itoldyaso.

Who cares? You predicted that a new syndicated format/moniker would have more than one station? That's like predicting Whoopi would have more stations after the initial press release. I'll bet Rick Dees will pick up a ton of stations after the launch, too. That doesn't mean you're psychic, it doesn't mean you have inside info, and it doesn't mean you know more than anyone else in Seattle radio. (If you did, you'd get paid for it, and you'd be off enjoying your spoils instead of passing the time online..)

It means you're the one bored enough to waste your free time spouting off 'guesses' on the internet.

My prediction? This box of EL Fudge cookies in front of me will be dipped in coffee.

So Movin is seeing the same kind of results that KBSG got when Viacom was saturating the TV airwaves their commercials.

Are you willing to come back here and talk tough when the TV budget runs dry?

Did I miss the memo that Alan Burns moved to Seattle? Last I saw, he's still in suburban Washington D.C.

To say that Seattle is "consulting" the other station is amusing. Asking about how sales is going is not consulting. Any smart manager would give Seattle a call. I just hope they didn't give as inflated and misleading chatter that you dispense.

Yeah, okay. Jocks backselling the umpteenth time Movin has played CeCe Peniston. That will take the station to new levels.

You would think with all the complaining of jocks being displaced by voicetracking that there are plenty of jocks out there. Besides who wouldn't want to a place like Seattle? It's pretty easy to see that Marc is saving money by not hiring jocks.

Kiss has been in trouble well before Movin went on the air.

Jack's novelty has worn off. They were drawing huge 25-54 when they first started out. What Jack has done has drawn long-term skepticism over the Movin numbers. Many people expect Movin numbers to erode as the novetly of the station wears off and the TV dollars go away. The problem with Movin is that they have little ability to freshen up its sound. What does Movin' do to freshen up its sound, get more liners from "Brad?"

Saying that KPLZ "fluked a good trend or two" is entertaining. You don't "fluke" multiple trends. Besides, KPLZ is not competition for Movin. They go after 25-54 and even you said that Movin is an 18-34 station.

But I understand your affliction with KPLZ. You weren't able to beat them head-on as Mix, so you decide to call them competition when they're not.

So again Mama states that the "Seattle Team" is consulting many of the Movin stations in other markets. Who exactly makes up this impressive team you may ask?
1. Marc Kaye: A general manager with absolutely no programming experience
2. Lisa Adams: A marginal air talent and first-time PD whose only programming experience was as a MD for two radio stations
3. Several part-time board operators (some of whom make in excess of $9.00 per hour!)

And why wouldn't you want this all-star team consulting your station? In only six months, they have managed to put on the exact music the consultant instructed them to add...they have asked their intern staff to wear station t-shirts at several events belonging to other stations, they bought televison time and they ran the commercials given to them by the consultant...they have placed countless advertisements searching for an airstaff...and they have managed to squeeze in a little time for some interesting posts on various industry websites. Congrats to the entire "Seattle Team"...don't be surprised if the folks at the Marconi awards show up at your Factoria complex soon!

Actually Alan Burns lives in FL..

2nd on the quote about Lisa Adams.. anyone who knows her personally knows that she isn't a Puppet style PD.. she is a PROGRAM DIRECTOR.. She's only been MD for 2 SEATTLE stations, several others before that! Get your facts straight..

MOViN has moved up and will keep on MOViN' up.. wait till the airstaff starts.. I can't wait to hear it.

But my young friend....being a MD is not the same thing as being a Program Director. Please tell us at what stations/markets Ms. Adams programmed. I think the point that Bob was making is that this is a very small and inexperienced staff...probably not a team that is doing any consulting at other stations around the country. I wish them nothing but success, but the grandiose claims on this board by some, make it seem as though The Seattle Team invented a new format that will change radio as we know it!

Movin is like Jack, a lot of one time smack.

CBS would be the inevitable choice to invest in a slapped together attention getting gimmick consistent with a cheap, tight corporation that likes cheap tricks to get listeners now that Stern is over.

Movin will see modest/minor gains, and melt into history like all the other boring propaganda formats of recent times. It has the exact same odor they all did.

KUBE has little to fear. They are tightly entrenched in the market with people connections and active, marketing and public involvement (even if you have to bring a gun and a vest) that makes them popular beyond the top 40 spins.

KUBE may have more to fear than you think if you look at the last trend. KUBE was cut in half 25-54 and beaten by: MOVIN. KBKS is gone. Not saying the trend means everything, but KUBE is paying attention.

And after they are done paying attention for a few months, they will have the same thing to worry about; nothing.

Movin is a pre fab, plug this is and hope for the best remedy consistent with short term, panicky radio management. No real talent, all talk and no proof other than dancing butt commercials that it delivers what the audience wanted.

I will believe it when Movin is solid #3+ and knocks KUBE off forever. As for KBKS, apparently the local ant hill among thousands of other things do them damage every day. Who cares!

Which of these things happens first?

So which of these things happens first? Don't just say what you would like to have happen first, just tell me which one of these will ACTAUALLY happen first.

  • Movin' gets a full airstaff
  • Movin' flips formats
  • Jack flips formats
  • Jack adds on-air talent
  • Kiss flips
  • Jackie and Bender are shown the door
  • Kent and Alan retire
  • Ichabod hangs it up

1. JACK Flips (Hot/AC, Country or Free FM)
2. MOVIN gets mornings or night show
3. Jackie and Bender out
4. KNDD flips to KIRO simulcast
5. MOVIN #1 25-54
6. Kent and Alan, Ichabod and Bob Rivers all retire on same day
7. DJ Dan passes away in shock.
8. Airwaver puts up picture of old END banner on Web.
9. Takeitfromme throws a fit
10. AQH tries to explain it all with Rob Stutson.

i think you have a better chance of most of the people on this board eating GARY Crow than eating crow in the sense that they'll admit you're right. good luck though

I can't believe my reply made it on the front page-

After poster "mammaknowsbest" noted that several predictions about the new Movin' format he or she made came true, poster "dustinthewind" shot back: "Who cares? You predicted that a new syndicated format/moniker would have more than one station? That's like predicting Whoopi would have more stations after the initial press release . . . That doesn't mean you're psychic, it doesn't mean you have inside info, and it doesn't mean you know more than anyone else in Seattle radio . . . It means you're the one bored enough to waste your free time spouting off 'guesses' on the Internet."

Ouch!

I feel bad. Very bad. It's not enough that the people who read the Seattle board are subjected to someone trying to fill iknowitall's shoes, but someone calling them on their BS is enough for 'front page' coverage? I'm sorry, fellow radio geeks. I didn't know a caffeine and sugar high induced reply would be what people check out the Seattle board for. I understand if you take me off your Christmas card list. ;D

Except you, mamma. Without me, your 15 minutes would be no more than dropping the same chum AQH loves to gnosh on. I still expect a card from you. :D
