ED CHANDLER CALLS IT QUITS AT KILT-FM

Just read on Eds' Facebook page that he quit the CBS owned KILT-FM today. He said the management wanted him to go back to weekends and fill-ins rather than doing the night-time shift he has been doing on KILT. He said no and decided to quit instead. Glad to hear that someone still has the b***s to stand up to management and say no more rather than bow to the suits. Good luck Ed !

Tells how much I listen to Houston radio these days, whatever became of the lady that once upon a time was doing the nightshift on the weekends at KILT? Her name escapes me but she came from X97 I do believe.

Thanks

I never cared for her much. She was fine on air, but in the hallways - huge different story. She had quite an attitude on her, which is a shame... I tried to be very polite with her.

You must not have known her too well. Dylan is top notch. Absolutely the finest producer I've ever known, and a wonderful lady as well. You just had to get to know her. When I first met her, I thought she had a bit of an attitude as well, but it's just a defense mechanism. When we needed someone to handle the big intricate live broadcasts,,,like the ACM's,,or CMA's...she's the producer we would call on. I know Rowdy Yates wouldn't want anyone else to produce him except Dylan...that goes for me as well. She knows every piece of equipment in that building inside out and backwards. Go Dylandra!

I agree, Steve. It's probably a defense mechanism. When I came back to KILT in 2000, she asked someone why is he here? He's a top 40 DJ. I found that funny seeing how I was at KILT from 1984 through 1997. She warmed up quickly though. She and I never had a cross word and she did her job, plus was always on time. She is an excellent board operator. In fact, when KNTH came on the air and asked me to find people, I told her about the gig. She wasn't interested. I knew her heart was to be on the air and not just a board operator. I couldn't blame her for that.

When I found out that the former 93Q promotion guy/Phoenix PD was coming to KILT, I made a few inquiries and found that he was a big believer in voice tracking on the weekends and all night. Luckily for me, KIKK became KHJZ and I made the jump. I knew the handwriting was on the wall for me at KILT. Eventually Dylan got caught up in all of that. She's damn good and somebody should give her break.

I was Dylan's OM at KIOX-FM in the '90s and she was the best employee/DJ I had.

Back on track: I hate hearing that Ed's gone. He had a good FM 100 personality. (Seems like I remember good ol' Dickie Rosenfeld calling KILT "FM a-hunnerd." Just thinking about Dickie makes me want to out and get a Stoli.)

I have nothing but admiration, and respect for Ed Chandler. We had alot of great conversations about radio, life, and other stuff too. I told him on more than one occasion that he needed to chronicle his radio career. What great stories he has!! I completely understand why he left, and don't blame him one single bit. He's a stand up guy, a talented air personality, and I'm proud to call him my friend.
