Ed Johnson Retires - KOOL 105

Overheard on KOOL 105 this morning that (former) mid-day personality Ed Johnson has retired. Not sure what's behind that as I'm a little out of the loop on Burlington radio, but the business has lost a class-act and great air talent. I never missed Ed's Friday "Polyester Power Hour" at lunch time, back when he did mid-days on KOOL. I worked with Ed in Middlebury and you couldn't meet a nicer guy, and those pipes !!
Good luck Ed and thanks for the chance to meet and work with one of the business' true talents.

I worked with Ed beginning in 1972 at (the now defunct) WHLW-AM in Lakewood, NJ. I also followed him a few years later to WPST-FM in Trenton, NJ. He and I were up for a job at the legendary WIBG-AM in Philly during the 70's...HE got the gig. I was proud of him.

Ed is the consumate radio guy. He kept at it relentlessly through good times and bad. That's the mark of a true performer and talent.

I wish you well EZ/Fast Eddie.
How is Lenerd taking the retirement? I guess he can run his tractor anywhere, anytime now and doesn't have to bring you to work in the snow.

BE BIG!

I've had the pleasure of working with Ed several times and he is one of the few good guys left in radio and what a great voice. I hear he was pushed out of Hall?

That would stink if it were true, but I'm out of that loop, so I have no idea one way or the other.

Ed has retired. How often in this business do you get to hear about a jock retiring?

Those of us at WKOL-FM who had the honor of working with Ed love him dearly, and we had a wonderful party for him, with the staffs of our five stations on hand, a pile of presents, and lots of hugs.

I plan on seeing him today, as I accepted an award on Ed's behalf for "Best Radio Produced :60 Ad" at yesterday's VAB Convention in Montpelier.

Some of you may know that Ed quietly did things for our world above and beyond the call. He and his terrific wife Bonnie raised several GENERATIONS(!) of foster kids, adopting most of them as his own.

Ed will continue to live in Vergennes, spend time with his children and grand-children, and stay active with various singing organizations. And hopefully he'll stay in touch, because we miss him already.

Thanks for taking the time to set the record straight, Jon, and it's even nicer to read that Ed's departure was as classy as the man himself.
