Ed Perry and WMEX

http://bostonradiowatch.blogspot.com/2017/12/wmex-1510-plans-to-return-to-airwaves.html?m=1
Due to return in next few weeks pending FCC approval.
Ed Perry:"Well, we've reached an agreement with the owners of WMEX and I've sent off a check. Of course the deal still has to be approved by the FCC which often takes a bit of time. Anyway, I'm excited about the prospect of helping to revive the station I grew up with and truly loved as a kid in Natick. Should be fun and I'm sure there's a lot of air talent around to fill the frequency with great music and memorable words. As they say..."Stay tuned" !!""

So it's going to be a music station if all goes well with the approval? Are they going to drag Loren or was it Wally...are they going to drag him out of retirement? Bring back Arnie Woo Woo Ginsberg? Is Sonny Joe White still alive? Yikes!

Music on Ancient Modulation....why didn't I think of that?!

Music on Ancient Modulation....why didn't I think of that?!

There's a growing group of small owners around the country who are using once-dead AM stations as pet personal projects. Why waste time with a Part 15 when you can own a full fledged AM station. If you can keep the costs down, and you have another source of income, it can be done. Some of us are watching former Entercom salesman Buddy Shula have fun owning WECK in Buffalo. They understand the business model, know the right engineers to call, and want to be their own boss. There's another guy outside of Knoxville. Several others who did what so many would love to do: Buy a station really cheap, hire retired legendary talent, and play 60s-70s oldies. Just for fun.

IIRC.....back in the 70s Mr. Perry was notorious for filing competing applications against other prospects....just to gum up the wheels of progress....
Here's hoping his approach to broadcast licensing has changed over the last 40 years.....!!
More power to Ed.....IF he can actually pull this off!!!
If he can't swing live talent.....maybe syndicated Oldies?????!!!
Who's carrying Scott Sherman in the Boston market???

Another guy in Knoxville, who works full time for Midwest (B97.5, etc), owns and has traded several surrounding AMs (this is not the guy who has the oldies station)

For the people talking about a True Oldies affiliate in Boston, the closest to Boston that I know of is WNNH (99.1) out of Manchester, NH. It barely reaches the Massachusetts boarder, if at all. I knew it as one of the Frank stations, but was going through the radio, back in the fall, when I was in the area, and noticed Shannon voice tracking the station.

A rumor has been going round for a couple weeks, hopefully it's not true, that the sale may hit a snag because the Renegade guys want to do a morning show on a Perry-owned WMEX.That doesn't sound like what Ed expressed in his hope for the station.

They shouldn't be on a 250 watt daytime only AM station without a translator in the bible belt, let alone a revived AM 1510.
