Ed Phillips Leaves KTAR

It was announced at 8:20 AM that KTAR Weatherman Ed Phillips is leaving the station. Mr. Phillips said that he was starting a consulting group and there will be a website up soon. Jim Sharpe, hosting Ankarlo Mornings, replayed it and gave some personal thoughts.

I knew Ed had a coffee house called Weather & Coffee. Went to the website and I think the establishment is closed.

Ed did a great job giving his weather reports while interacting with the hosts. I met Ed at the 2008 VNSA book sale. He was very nice. I wish him good luck.

The best weather guesser of 'em all as far as Nurse Jeff and I are concerned. Not only did Phillips know his stuff, but he came across as the personable friend you'd like to have. A tip of the fez for his long run on KT'R in addition to time at Mc12, ABC15, the AZ Senate and his now closed coffee shop!

Ed Phillips was RIFfed. After all these years, that is a serious bummer. Go here for the scoop:

Damn.

So I guess KTAR is going to a service like Accuweather or the Weather Channel.

As I'm listening to Kid throw it to traffic with Steve Ludwig, I wonder if the traffic helicopter is the next to go? As Detour Dan Beach mentions, he is the only one doing radio airborne traffic reports. With all the online traffic cameras, while not the same as actually seeing the issues, problems can still be reported.

Rats! Now who is going to tell us when we can use our evap coolers?

Ever since the Weather Bureau got rid of the Dew(ey) Point, it's been darned closed to impossible to know when the swamp cooler has to be shut off. As a result, the Buckeye Media Hut is beginning to look like the floorboard of our '76 Gremlin Levi's Special.
