Ed Schultz suspended without pay for Ingraham "Slut" remarks

Before this post gets out of hand, Ed apologized to Laura I. at the beginning of his MSNBC show. He also mentioned that he was embarassed at what he said and is making multiple efforts to reach out to Laura so that he can personally apologize to her. I believe him. Ed Shultz does get 'passionate' about his political beliefs. I'm sure this will blow over and he needs to take a break anyway.

While Fox News hyenas are howling, remember this...

NO-such-consequences when Limbaugh calls The President of The United States and congressional leadership "bastards."

You'd think he'd learn from the last time a radio/MSNBC host (Imus) used such vernacular on the air...

@Holland: Means either one of two things: media double standard, or the word "bastards" is just tamer by comparison...

Suppose it had been Rush (and Rush had a TV show too) and he used the same term to describe Stephanie Miller... would hope he would get same punishment. Free speech but words have consequences--imagine a Wal Mart greeter saying go f--- yourself to every customer and continues to despite warnings from boss. He has right to say it, but they have right to suspend or fire him.

Good for Ed for apologizing. Perhaps more people have now heard of him (not nec. in the best light...)
Ingraham btw is a cancer survivor. When I mentioned that on this board some had the attitude of good, she deserves it. They can say that; I can think less of them for saying it.

Some may disagree, but I see a double standard.......

First, when a Conservative talker uses hot insults against a Progressive talker, the Progressive talker got what he/she deserved. But when a Progressive talker uses the same rhetoric against a Conservative talker, the other side absolutely raises hell......

Not trying to get into any ideology debates, just a casual observation.....

Not to be political...or God forbid, partisan...
But...MSNBC seems to hold themselves to a higher standard than Fox News.

if the wal mart greeter tells people to go f___ yourself at a second job at a gas station does walmart have the right them?if the greeter stands on a street corner in his neighborhood on his own time telling everyone that should he be fired or disciplined?

should the host of a show on a program at one network be disciplined by that network because of something he said on his show on another network or as a guest on a program on another network?

my point is if the network on the program the remark is said , if the host is an employee of it. discipline belongs there if any at all.not the other network the host has a show on.if it is the same employer that is fair to discipline.

...Uncle Flush called a then 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton "the new White House Dog" on his TV show the week of her father's first inauguration. Not only did Multimedia not cancel the TV show, they kept distributing it for three more seasons although nobody was watching the damned thing. Flush also made the mistake of calling the Milwaukee Journal "The Milwaukee Urinal," forgetting that his Milwaukee affiliate was WTMJ-TV/4, the Journal-owned station. WTMJ-TV immediately shifted his show to a post-Later with Bob Costas time slot, from which it never emerged...

I believe Fox News holds themselves to a higher standard then MSNBC. It appears to me that Fox News gives more time opposing viewpoints then MSNBC does. That's my casual observation.

I've heard this before. Fox is always quick to point out how they give "equal time".

However, giving euqal time to opposing views hardly makes up for the flagrantly misleading information that is allowed to be broadcast and promoted by their personnalities for the sake of propping up one political ideology over another. Fox News doesn't seem to be preoccupied with reporting the truth, rather what their P1's want to hear.

To tell you the truth I was shocked of the suspension....what he said this on his 50 station radio show so I don't know if anybody really heard it anyway. By the way Big Eddie calls out progressives to "beat these bastards" those nasty rebuplicans.....Hey Ed just chill and grab a fishing poll and down some Old Style's and enjoy!! ;)

All in all, for every Rush Limbaugh, there's an Ed Schultz

For every Randi Rhodes, there's a Laura Ingraham.

And for plain old, middle of the road, non-partisan common sense, without the vitriol, there's......

.....Hold on, I'm still looking........Please hold......

Damn........

When I first saw the apology, I couldn't help but wonder if he was being genuine or disingenuous so as to appease the new Comcast brass. As time went on, I started to get the impression that he was seriously sorry. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but he walked into that pile of poo, owned it and privately apologized to Laura and to his family.

Ironically, Ed was one of the people that was insisting OTA that we needed to be more civil in politics a few months back. So he had no choice BUT to apologize. And to Laura credit, she didn't demand Ed's firing from either Dial-Global or MSNBC (though she took a coy shot at the D-G show: "First, I was surprised to learn that Ed Schultz actually hosted a radio show. Is it only available online?").

Quite frankly, I don't think that would ever happen with Keith Olbermann.

I think Big Eddie is very emotional and sometimes the emotions and anger is heard on the air. This is the same when Howard gets angry and says stuff on their air, but Howard is more explicid. :D I think someone like Randi Rhodes is more professional and knows how to carry herself the progressive arena.

My opinion, the top conservative talkers are their for entertainment. They get their fulfillment and emotional rush by feeding the need of the majority or playing the big bully by putting people down, such as Latinos, gays, women rights groups, etc. It is sad that we have 600+ radio stations broadcasting conservative / right wing over the air 24 hours a day. In Memphis there are 4 conservative talk radio stations. This is big money for corporate radio. I think this is really causing a divide in our country. Again my opinion, conservative radio is a big promotional campaign for the Republican party.

I would not mind if there were at least one Progressive Talk in a city to counter the balance, but only about 20 terrestrial stations in the country, something is wrong. Yes, there is Sirius, but this only accounts for 3 stations, Sirius Left, Gay Radio, and Howard but satellite radio does not talk on a local level.
