I just read on radiodailynews.com that Eddie Hubbard died on Monday from injuries suffered in a car accident. I haven't seen anything on KAAM's web site or anywhere else in Dallas. Also checked the Chicago newspapers and couldn't find anything there either.

Eddie was a gentleman and one of the nicest men I ever met or worked with. His knowledge of broadcasting made it a pleasure to speak with him whenever I would see him. Very sad to lose a man who was a major success in radio long before liner cards and voice tracking.

He will be greatly missed.

Wow!

hadn't heard that either..

i spent many an afternoon listening to Hubbard on KAAM when i needed a break from the day's trials.

condolences to his family and his radio family....

a good one, lost.....

Oh, I hope that's not true. I'll hunt around, too. I used to see him almost daily in the halls at ABC Radio Networks...old as the hills, but there faithfully every day, doing his thing as only he could. He'll be missed.

Eddie and his wife were involved in a car accident. His wife survived, Eddie did not.

Eddie was a giant in Chicago back years ago and one of the nicest gentlemen one would ever meet.

Very sad news. www.eddiehubbard.com

They don't make them like Eddie anymore.

Sincere condolences to his family and radio friends from a fan.

Interesting history on Eddie by "Googling." Check it out...

Eddie will be greatly missed.

I am really sorry to hear that...Eddie was a great guy and in his older years, still had a mind of a younger person and could go from off-mic to on in a snap of the fingers and not miss a beat...watching him do his show at ABC RN was a treat! He was always nice, honest and down to earth. RIP Eddie, it was an honor to have known and worked with you.

I'm going to miss Eddie as well. I worked in the next studio down the hall from him at ABC and there was never a nicer guy. His history speaks for itself and oh, the stories he could tell! The world is a more drab place without him in it. :'(

Eddie's family wanted a private service and apparently told no one at ABC of his death until after the fact. SOOOO...I'm already putting feelers out about doing a happy hour get-together to honor Eddie, probably a late afternoon (5-7PM-ish) in the next couple of weeks, somewhere in the ABC Radio Networks area in North Dallas/Addison. Nothing formal, come-and-go as you please, etc. Let me know if you all have any interest in coming to something like that.

I don't want to put anyone on the spot in light of assumed names and "handles" on here...should a get-together occur, I'll post the details about it on here.

I have just added Eddie Hubbard's biography to the famous Wikipedia on-line encyclopedia.

I have to add my 2 cents. I worked with Eddie from the early 80's, when ABC was SMN and we were in Mokena, Il. We both came to Dallas together and I saw him daily. Without question, he was one of the most unpretentious, knowledgable, down-to-earth, nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure to be around. I read about his death on-line and, although, there seemed to be nothing in the Dallas or Chicago papers, WGN did a nice piece on him. He was a giant in industry who I will miss. Rest in peace, my friend.

At the Stardust affiliate where I work as an announcer, we flew Eddie Hubbard in as our guest of honor at the station's fiftieth anniversary celebration. Eddie was MOBBED by our listeners, and he patiently signed autographs, tee shirts, and other memorabilia, as well as posed for dozens of pictures. I snapped one photo of Eddie surrounded by half a dozen white-haired groupies, who made a beeline for Eddie as soon as arrived. After the festivities, Eddie joined our air staff at the local watering hole for a few beverages. Much fun!

Heard part of the tribute to Eddie Hubbard on KAAM yesterday. I'm gonna miss him so much. When I started listening to KAAM back in the 90s (I was one of their younger listeners, lol), he was on in the afternoons. Eddie really had a sly sense of humor. He always found a way to play the comedy recordings "Ajax Liquor Store" and "Ajax Airlines" by Hudson & Landry on the air. I wish I could have met him in person, but I've got fond listener memories of that smooth talking dude!!!

Sly?? yeah you should have met him in person...Gawd, I want to have that much mental awareness when I get to his age ;) He cracked me up more than once with his whit and fast thinking and talk about smooth transition from an offair phone call to being on the mic live....I couldnt even do that as a jock in my 20s! Eddie was surely last of the greats....and will be forever missed.
