Eddie Murphy Returns to SNL

Best episode in years.

The episode Adam Sandler hosted earlier this year was good as well. Doesn't say much good about the current state of SNL that the only time it's worth watching is when they bring back hosts from their distant past. Last night was good though, except when the host wasn't involved, like the lame opening segment on the Demo debate. Murphy on stage with Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan and others in his monologue was neat to see.

SNL really needs a complete overhaul. Until Lorne Michaels is fired, quits or passes away, the show will likely be limited to bright moments when it brings back former stars.

Would have loved for him to be his own musical guest, and bust out "Party All the Time"! I believe that he had left the show by the time that that became a hit for him.

Correct. He was on SNL from 1980-84. That song was released in 1985. He had a great friendship with Rick James, who wrote and produced that song. When Rick was down on his luck, Eddie cast him in a movie.

I thought people hated that song.

My favorite part of the episode was when Colin and Michael wrote stories for each other that they each saw for the first time, and especially when we saw the cue card that Colin refused to read.

I admit Eddie was funny. I like him better in his movies. He is quite a good actor, as was shwn by how serious he was with the family dinner (not counting the flashbacks).

I don't often LOL multiple times during an SNL, but this one did the trick. Usually I delete the episode after watching once, this one I am keeping.

It sold well. I think, like so many other things, that those who disliked it simply were loud.

In any case, I think Eddie long ago gave up signing professionally, but I would've liked to have seen him sing on the recent SNL episode.

A great homecoming for Murphy. I was a teen who liked the original cast and suffered through the rebuilding years. Yes, I was watching when Charles Rocket dropped the F-Bomb. When Murphy arrived, it was like a breath of fresh air. It was cool to see a young, funny Black man killing it. I was sad to see him leave and think his 12/15/84 hosting episode was one of the best. I'll also be keeping this on my DVR for a while.
