Edge102 has recently started airing new ID breaks...

...with the callsign CFNY in them.

Anybody know what's up with this?

Welcome back to the Toronto board Bearcat!
Rumour is that they are preparing to "fall back" adding some CFNY classics to blend in with the current sound, but I'm not sure...Now I wonder...<P ID="signature">______________

possible, they are getttin' heat from the guys with ties,
that *cough,cough* where's the legal ID's ?/with the calls ??

I would like to see edge 102 sound like 99.3 the fox in vancouver.....they seem to do well.

Industry Canada stopped caring about calls a looongg time ago. What matters more is the fact that Edge is licenced to Brampton, yet never mentions it.

CFNY will be like KNDD Seattle, KNRK Portland, KWOD Sacramento, KRBZ Kansas City, KBZT or 91X San Diego, or at least CJZN Victoria, which play alternative without the hard rock or metal content. They can continue to play System Of A Down, Foo Fighters or Weezer, etc., like those stations above.

No way. If The Edge follows Entercom's alternative lead (KNDD/KNRK/KWOD/KRBZ), or at least the other leads of alt stations (KBZT/91X/WGVX/CJZN), then sister Y108 will continue to be mainstream rock with a more harder edge, including metal content. The Edge is alternative, with the fact Corus in the T-Dot owns an alternative on 102.1, a classic rocker on 107.1 & a mainstream rocker on 107.9 (licensed in Burlington). 102.1 The Edge wouldn't sound like The Fox in Vancity, 'cuz T-Dot's mainstream rock saturated (HTZ-FM, Y108 & 94-9 The Rock). HTZ-FM is your rimshot fix for the rest of the T-Dot, Y108 is your western T-Dot hard rock fix & 94-9 The Rock is your eastern T-Dot hard rock fix. CFNY will never play Aerosmith, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Van Halen, etc., because they're a HERITAGE ALTERNATIVE STATION. CFNY will continue to play today's alternative without the mention of Disturbed, Mudvayne, Slipknot, etc. (which I think might end up on Y108's playlist if Edge tweaks).<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by PassDutch on 08/29/05 08:37 PM.</FONT></P>

Calls are still required once or twice a day.<P ID="signature">______________

-i thouhgt so !!

:::::::::::::ALSO:::::::::::::::::::::

>>CFNY will never play Aerosmith, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, >>Van Halen, etc., because they're a HERITAGE ALTERNATIVE STATION.

*TRUE, and I am glad for that !!!* Too many stations try to do too much..
and, mix in that era of rock ( as u can tell, not a BIG Fan of it).
I enjoy it, but not my fave genre of rock....
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
*HOWEVER*
-DID I READ THIS RIGHT ???-

CFNY will continue to play today's alternative....
****-------> without the mention of Disturbed, Mudvayne, Slipknot, etc.
they play slipknot, disturbed, etc..some what in regular rotation - -
and it's saturated on the live-2-Aire's !!
-they still play alot of that aggressive stuff..esp. if it's "new"
-and, they reealy ROCK OUT with the PUNKARAMA show!!

i think i am listening to CFNY more NOW than in the past...yea, most
Older peeps say they fell off, from the radical days of the 80s..but
at least NOW, u can enjoy them for a longer period of time..instead
of listening to a bunch of unknown, and even unsigned artists..yea,
that ~MAY~ be more exciting at times, its better radio and has a
better flow to it when they play well-known established artists...!!

I, for one, would love to see CFNY embrace their roots. IMHO they were much more listenable in the old days (before the awful 1988 Top 40 experiment and the following transition to an Alt mainstreamer) even with the abundance of unknown/breaking artists. Kept you months (sometimes years) ahead, and exposed folks to a lot of great music and genres you would never hear anywhere else.

They may not have had monster ratings (though respectable once the signal was improved), but they were able to keep people listening longer. Mostly due to a combination of outstanding talent, super marketing and the "what are they going to play next" factor.

Would be very difficult to recreate the kind of renegade vibe they had pre-'88,
esp. due to ConCan, but they could tap in to the "Spirit" of the original with specialty programming and by digging deeper into the library. And bring back No-Repeat Workdays!

They seem to have simmered down...since the summer.
