Edge Morning Show

So, with the Carolla show going off the air at the end of the month (live broadcasts end this week), any chance of a Morning Ritual revival?

why would you want that? that show was a train wreck. The Edge should stop trying to force different individual together and go out and find themselves a complete show.

LOL, That would never happen. The Edge should stick to just playing music in the mornings. Save the $$$ and just play some tunes.

If you mean the last year or so of Morning Ritual, then you're right. It was a hodgepodge of voices after all of Chuck's original posse split town on him.

The original vision (Vince & Chuck) was radio gold, though. Vince checked Chuck's goofier instincts while Chuck played off Vince's unusual passions -- always as friends and partners, never as demeaning host and suffering sidekick (unlike certain rock-station morning illnesses one could mention). Without Vince, Chuck got unfocused and never seemed to be able to relate to the dizzying carousel of "talent" that spun through his studio.

That said, here's hoping Robin Nash gets bumped up to do her music-oriented thing one shift earlier, with Craven taking the lunchtime shift (and maybe still VTing an hour-long nightly SkaPunk show). Music, music, music; that's the key to bringing back the Edge. Lean extra-heavy alt-gold, with maybe one song in six or seven a current. While everyone else is yapping, the Edge'll be rockin'.

Does anybody think Big O and Dukes could come back? They had great chemistry, and were the best at making listeners feel involved. Just a thought...

the edge picked up that show cuz they can't afford a real one. the company is running on fumes.

Funny you mentioned them. I always thought they were kind of juvenile during there stint here on Free FM, but I stumbled across their podcasts on itunes and they seemed to have matured on the east coast. I'm not sure about the money, because I agree, The Edge doesn't have much. I just think that show has been in the valley and seems to be doing well in middays. 103.9 could at least have a morning show that could do appearances again. I assume they would be cheaper than a Frosty, Heidi and Frank or a more established show...

Rumor on the street is WJFK is next to be blown up so Big O and Dukes may be looking soon. If Edge had money and they probably don't, I would get Big O and Dukes for am drive and Chuck and Colin for pm drive. The rest could be all music if they can't afford anyone else LOL. Oh poor Robin Nash, hmmm maybe join the morning or afternoon show or both and pull double duty

Any chance of another LA station picking up Corolla and syndicating? If his show was successful, why wouldn't another outfit pick them up?

It would not shock me if CBS syndicated another show that was less expensive and 103.9 just picked that up to save money. I did a little research and found out that in their last book on KZON, O and D had great numbers men 18-34. Granted that was in evenings, but it's something. I think it's something I'd like to see the Edge try at least. I liked Adam, but nothing beats a live and local morning show.

Even though it would be (personally) preferred if they had a local morning team, they will probably go syndicated.

I'm hearing Kevin and Bean.

Nothing against them but the last thing we need is another LA show shoved down our throats.

With Baxter not even living in California, let alone L.A., it's not nearly as SoCal-centric as, say, FHF was. This is one "local" show that could work elsewhere.

Although the Lakers references would have to be waaaaay trimmed back.

I personally liked when the edge had a local show because I liked the interaction and felt more a part of the show, as weird as it sounds. I personally like Big O and Dukes. I listened when they where on 101.5 and have podcasted their show from D.C. If I wanted to listen to an L.A. show in my car I'd move there. Give us something local.

Agreed. It would seem to me that the the edge could generate way more revenue with a live show, obviouly. being out in Phoenix would also help promote the morning show. Unless they are punting the format in the next year, I think they have to bring in a live show this time. Adam had some success because he had already established himself on KZON prior to being tapped for mornings at 103.9. I can't see Kevin and Bean or Opie and Anthony or any other show CBS could offer having the same results.

I would say the best option would be if they blow up JFK in washington, to get Big O and Dukes for .mornings. The second option would be Bubba the love sponge. If they do bring in bubba I would run him 3-9am which would allow him to be live. The other hours that he is not live they could air best of depending on what time of year it is. BTLS brought his road show to phoenix last year and alot of people turned out for it and he does have a following here already.

BigO and Dukes in town this weekend???

They were. My friend went to the party they had at Dos Gringos and said it was packed. He also said that they hinted that their DC station might not be keeping them. Seems like pretty good timing for the Edge.
