EHM's Signal ?

Over the weekend I went out to the Hamptons to open my house up for the Spring and be ready for guests on Easter. While out there I always tune into to 92.9 EHM because of the superior music to all around it. They were mentioning increasing their coverage of the island through an antenna move. On the way home I figured I'd see how far they would last and I kept them up to Route 110 in Farmingadle on the Southern State Parkway. Is that their new signal or was it the weather ? Curious what others observations on the signal is. Also, should other island stations be worried about this signal move, and if so which ones ?

1) What type of radio do you have? If it's a Pioneer or Blaupunkt, those have better selctivity at the expense of distortion.

2) I can get WEHM as far west as Plainview on the LIE, but that can be better or worse depending on which way the wind blows. Usually, for me, most East End stations are listenable to to about the Sagtikos Pkwy... after that, it can be hit or miss. There are spots in western Nassau (between Willis Ave and Shelter Rock Rd) where WLNG can be very listenable.

WLNG definitely seems to benefit by utilizing a mono signal (less noise from stereo interference), plus a relatively weak station next to it on 91.9 and no other 91.9's in the immediate area to the west of Suffolk County.

WEHM's signal really seems to be hit or miss. Some days it comes in where I am in Central Suffolk like a local, other times, it seems to be weak or at times, ripped up by other stations on 92.9 (even when tropo on other frequencies is weak). I recall one winter day, getting a station on 92.9 out of, I believe, Allentown, PA, in a parking lot at Stony Brook University. A scan of other frequencies didn't turn up any other DX. Since then, I've caught the same thing happen a number of times but the interfering station never stayed on long enough so I could identify it.

WEHM's sound quality also seems to vary from day to day and even song to song. At times, it seems that they're getting their audio from a dial-up connection, very tinny and weak. Other times, it sounds pretty good. Never understood that, but in general, the East End cluster (92.9-101.7-96.9-102.5) seems to be pretty weak in the audio department.

The current tower is on the south fork in the Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor/North Sea.
They have a construction permit to move it west to the Quogue/Flanders area, with an increase in power from 2750 watts to 6000 watts.

I don't know which they are currently operating from.
