El Norte 98.3 fm

Hello, I just got home from Forth Worth tx today. And I noticed that 98.3 fm El Norte had flipped name, it has the same format but just different name. Now they are called Radio La Neta, why would LBI do this? Did LBI sale KBOC? I think that is the call sign right? KBOC?? Did LBI sale this station? Or what is the deal with the name change?

Per the FCC database, no change in calls...it's still KBOC. Ya know, they had a pretty respectable book and trend, 12+ anyway, beating out a lot of full-stick, local stations that should be pretty embarrassed by that, considering KBOC is a rimshot and a relative newcomer. I don't listen to KBOC, but judging by your handle, you likely have a good grasp on Hispanic radio in (and around) DFW. Please answer me this one question...how/why do Hispanic listeners put up with all of those format changes that seem to have no logic? Seems like it's once a year that one Hispanic radio cluster will swap around all of their various formats to different stations in their own cluster, then you've got other groups who will just randomly dump out of a format that had perhaps one bad book. Generally, is there any real thinking going on in the background, or do they just ask the Magic-8 ball? How do Hispanic listeners build up that all-important trust and commonality in any station when someone keeps screwing with it? (I know KLNO is an exception, but others who'd like to be #1 can't seem to pledge more than a year to a particular format.)

Well to answer your question, I dont live in or around DFW. I live in houston, and I havent seen no mayor format changes here in houston for hispanic listeners. So far the only company that has changed formats ever since they moved here in houston has been. LBI, on there station 850 and 101.7 fm they have changed formats like crazy. First it was a format named, SONIDO 850, then it became CONCIERTO 850, later they came up with LA NORTENA 850 and 101.7 fm. Then LBI decided to move that format to 96.9 and 1230 am, at the same time that station was changed names to EL NORTE. And 1230 am was RADIO RANCHITO and it also changed names and became LA RANCHERA and LBI moved that station to 850 am. Makes me wonder if LBI will change EL NORTE 96.9 and 1230 am make it LA NETA also?

The only other recent Format change here in houston would be UNIVISION trying to compete against CLEAR CHANNEL with their MEGA format. Univision change PARTY 104.9 KPTY and flipped the format and became TU MUSICA 104.9 KAMA, a station that UNIVISION invented to try to compete against MEGA 101 KLOL. And UNIVISION has failed so far to win the battle. So I guess you are right, us hispanics have had alot of format changes.

Knowing Liberman, I don't think a Magic 8-ball is in play. More like and ADD 8-ball.

<Shaking Ball> La Norte, Ranchero...oh, bunny rabbit!

BGH

El Norte has changed it's name because it is going just like it's sister station La Raza 93.7 FM more hardcore Regional Mexican. The Liberman people who are based out of California is after the Mexican immigrant audience more than anything. They don't care about catering to Tejanos/Mexican-Americans or other Hispanic groups in D/FW.They have even drop some of the Tejano music they played once in a while out of the rotations.Liberman Broadcasting is just another company trying to do their best to compete against the giant Univision Radio here in the Dallas market.
