El Paso's KLOZ 102.1 Top 40? 70's

Hey Guys:

Looking at 102.1 History.
See 102.1 was KIZZ Classical format from 1969 to 1972.
Also see by the broadcasting Yearbooks the 102.1 went to KLOZ as Top 40 (listed in the yearbooks as Contemporary) in December of 1972. True? Was it called Z-102 or K-102?
Then KLOZ went Country in June of 1975 after it was sold to Mesa Radio in March of 1975.
See Wikipedia got ti wrong again saying that KLOZ went country in 1972.

Is this correct?
Thanks for the help.
Tommy C.

I don't know about it during the top-40 days. I always remember KLOZ 102.1 as a country station. (Strangely enough, I would end up working at a KLOZ for a few years starting in mid-2005.)

If you're using the old Broadcasting Yearbook as your reference, it's about as likely to be right as Wikipedia. Sometimes, it's spot-on, but a lot of its entries' formats and personnel are a few years out-of-date. I'm guessing it used to rely on stations to self-report those changes while using FCC data to get call letters and such, and, a lot of the time, stations don't respond to update requests.
