Elaine Soncini is leaving WHAT 1340 AM

That's fine and all, farewell Elaine. but the rest of the article is what's strange...

WHAT's program director and morning host Jim Clark will broadcast from North Carolina, where he and the station's GM, Steve Roberts, are moving.

How are they going to run the station from NC?

The article adds the morning show host/PD and the GM are both moving to North Carolina. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

So, what happens to WHAT after February 28th?

I told Steve and Jim that they should be proud of what they created at WHAT. The station they put together offers something that is unique and very listenable. For we who are 50+ and are not interested in 80s music that WOGL plays, and who also enjoy music from "The Great American Songbook" (aka Standards), WHAT is a great alternative. It was the best thing since WPEN dropped their similar format several years ago.

Marconi has been trying to sell the station for some time now and the fact of the matter is that as soon as a buyer can be found the format will most likely change, so why bother hiring anybody for a staion that is circling the drain? The signal has never been good enough to generate the revenue to off set what was originally paid for the station. As for how they'll run it from NC, remote log-ins to generate a playlist and VT can be uploaded either directly or they can be loaded in from emailed MP3's. Funny, a Philly station whose morning host is in North Carolina, Mid-Days from Scranton, and half of the morning drive comes from Florida.

I meant half of the PM Drive. Al Clay and Bill Knight should also be given credit for their contributions as well, it was Al who brought in Bowe, Webber, and Bob Craig, and Bill Knights tweaks to the playlist that helped to form the sound today. Jim Clark gave the station a more modern sound with some additions and helped to vastly improve the talent and at one point the production. It's just too bad it didnt work in the end.

Standards live on

Let's also note the Andy Kortman morning show has lost WFYL 1180, now that they have gone right-wing talk. The show is still heard on WNJC 1360AM and online.

Other places to hear standards locally:

WRDV-FM 89.3 Warminster/Hatboro, PA, 107.3 Philadelphia, PA, 97.1 Bensalem, PA and
WLBS-FM 91.7 Bristol/Levittown, PA and wrdv.com

WDVR-FM 89.7 Delaware Township, NJ, 91.9 Lawrenceville, NJ and wdvrfm.com

Plus a few thousand other Internet radio stations and audio streams.
