Election results on 970 WFLA

I thought Mark Larsen did a great job last night. Coverage began at 7pm, while all the major TV stations preferred to carry TMZ, Wheel Of Fortune, etc. at that hour. Anyone else listening?

I know "hard" results are frowned upon when a portion of the state is on Central Time and polls haven't closed (really, all of Florida should be on Central), but not leading in at 7 was a sad example of what society's interest priorities are.

It is the local radio coverage the works not TV. Leading up to the election I regularly listened to a little local station in Sarasota. WTMY - Talk Sarasota had the best coverage of all the races. In fact, I made my decisions based upon what I heard on Sherman Baldwin's show.

Local radio lives!!!!!

Listened to WFLA for a while and was pleased that they were covering the elections.

WFLA was good for the local races, but then I went to XM channel 130 (POTUS) and their main focus last night was on the Florida statewide elections and they had some good coverage as well as interviews with the candidates.

TV was basically a no-show in the coverage; TV certainly benefitted the most from campaign ad revenue, but that didn't seem to make them obliged to have decent coverage.

Isn't Florida mostly located on the Eastern seaboard?

I've got an idea: let's bring in Bugs Bunny with a saw and he'll settle this. ;)

Would you care to elaborate why you think this would be is a smart thing, considering how 85 percent of the state physically lies east of the Central time zone border (as does roughly 95 percent of the state's population)? Or would you rather repostulate your theorem?

The show was just brutal, nothing but Mark's Tea Party/Libertarian idiocy all night, no co-host with a more moderate/left wing slant to provide even coverage.

Not surprising though, Mark's been a joke ever since those ultra-ridiculous "I've just completed a secret, undercover mission to the big box stores to find out the truth about their tile" spots he did back in 2003-2004.

Nothing but a schilly schill who has no place in radio.

At the risk of starting a war here....or perhaps its been covered elsewhere and I ..

a) missed the thread
b) really don't care in the long run...

but...what would our world be like if Mark Larsen had decided to stay for another 6 months or so at 970 WFLA...and not open the doors the first local appearance of Glenn Beck...?

I can never listen to Larsen for very long... or any of the talk show hosts, local or syndicated, in this market. In my humble opinion the elimination of the fairness doctrine ruined AM radio.

What else could anyone expect? On 970 ? Its cume is not that much bigger than it was in the late 80's (pre-Limbaugh era) with diaries. People who are not hardcore conservatives just are not as likely to tune in to 970 anymore. So why try to serve them?

Really?

Summer 1989 - 12+ Cume 189,100 over a week
July 2010 - 12+ Weekly Cume 308,000

Cume Rating is up substantially as well
