Election & Talk Radio

In light of last night's Obama win, I'm wondering what will happen to talk radio's ratings if Obama becomes the nominee or even President.

If Hillary wins the nomination, talk radio will have a banner year. If she wins the presidency, I expect talk radio's ratings to go through the roof over the next 4 years.

If Obama wins, I expect a significant ratings drop. He's sure not the lightening rod that Hillary is. And I don't think hosts such as Hannity will dare go nearly as far in bashing him.

Does anyone agree?

I totally disagree Roddy!
Obama is very likable.....his wife is just outright desirable! He is the JFK of the 21st century.....except for the fact that he is a socialist.
Talk radio will have a field day with Obama when everyone really gets to hear his ideas. At least he is a honest presentation of his philosophy and talk radio can debate the merits/limitations of his ideas.
I'm so sick of hearing about Bill Clinton.....and Hillary too. I hope we can move past those two and get back to talking about the serious issues facing our society.
After all.....Brittany was drunk at home with the kids again. Just what is Obama proposing to do about that?

I don't know, but according to White House spokesperson Dana "What's the Bay of Pigs?" Perino, Bush and Cheney believe this is the tipping point to launch a new war on Iran.

But more importantly, how will this all affect Q100?

Keep in mind that Obama is still a JUNIOR Senator. If he's elected, the congressmen with decades of national experience (aka knows where the bodies are buried) will ride roughshod over him. Anything he wants passed that they don't will be ignored and anything he vetos will be overridden.

It'll help talk radio for a while, but it'll get old quick.

I could be wrong but with so much redundancy daily on the political talk front, think of this: the huge failure of recent movies with a political or war agenda message. The Cruise-Streep movie bombed the first weekend.
Charlie Wilson's War with Hanks-Roberts was a big revenue disappointment. Is it possible that people are just sick of all the "versions of the truth" out there and would rather see any movie but that. I mean earlier this week in Iowa over 40% were still undecided. Maybe Hannity should add a cooking segment.

Roddy- my most esteemed colleague;

Four years ago, we were all predicting the end of talk radio (meaning Conservative Radio) due to W. winning a second term. All the prognosticators said that Rush, Hannity and their ilk would have nothing to talk about 'coz the GOP controlled the Congress, the Oval Office and the Supreme Court. If you listened to any Conservative Radio over the past four years, the reason the war is going badly, the economy is tanking and the CIA tortured prisoners is because of Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton. Conservative Radio is able to make any situation look dire and they keep their audience tuned in by using the fear of being overrun by tree-hugging, flag burners on their way to a gay wedding as their main weapon.

Don’t get me wrong, I think they have done a “heckuva job” in doing it. I just wish those who dissent with the way this country is being run (into the ground) could figure out a way to get their point across.

Rush, Hannity, et al will continue to do just fine. Even if Newt were in the White House, they'd still be able to say the country was going to hell, and their fans would still listen. But, do they necessarily agree with their ditto leaders? The Iowa results proved that no one cared how Rush, Hannity, and even Bush tried to spin it. They tried their best to make Hillary the Democratic winner...knowing she has no chance of winning...and tried to minimize Huckabee, but Iowans went their own way. It's nice to know people still think for themselves in this country.

Og!! People still "think for themselves in this country???" You know better than that!!
A majority get their news from "Entertainment Tonight." There are 15-20 million people who actually believe Sean Hannitty is an intelligent man. 98% of the VOTING American population has not read a non fiction book in the past 10 years!!
Rush decides who conservatives support (along with duffle bag boy Sean) CNN decides which Democrats will prevail. The media has determined the power players in America since 1960(Nixon-Kennedy)....Matt Drudge probably has surpassed radio/television as a power broker.
The average American hasn't a clue regarding economic and political matters and must be told by rock stars preachers, or talkshow hosts what to think. Our collective stupidity leads to people like Sean, Rush,Franken, Brittany, Madonna et al, and organizations like NRA, Right to Life, GreenPeace, Blah blah blah.....
Talk radio....just like CNN...will survive no matter what - until the end of mankind - which may be sooner than we think.

Well put. I would add that The Daily Show and E! are also huge news dissemination outlets.

Did you see how Hillary dissed Iowa after her loss, saying New Hampshire's voters were more independent thinkers? - really praising NH.

Wonder what she's gonna say if she loses NH? :p

(This stuff is too much fun... :D)

Back on January 4, I made the point that voters were not listening to Rush, Sean, etc. and voting with their own minds. A blog posting by Michael Medved saying the same thing was a hot topic today on neocon radio.

Medved said, "In other words, the talk radio jihad against Mac and Huck hasn’t destroyed or even visibly damaged those candidates. But it has damaged, and may help destroy, talk radio."

I agree. The public turned off McCarthy, remember?

For what it's worth, I heard Neil Boortz doing his promo on "Atlanta's Morning News" after Hillary won in New Hampshire. Boortz lamented the fact that Hillary won and then said, "But it will be great for talk radio."

He seems to agree with my thinking :D.

Mike Huckabee's amazing push is due to a ringing endorsement by television faux-pundit, Stephen Colbert, thus proving my statement.

No Og....the MEDIA turned off McCarthy!
Do you deny the omnipotent power of the electronic media? The stars and heavens are moved by CNN and FoxNews. The world political agenda is set by CNN and FoxNews. What people care about....laugh about......cry about.....is decided by CNN and FoxNews.
Well.....let's also include "Entertainment Tonight." Supposedly more Americans watch Entertainment Tonight as their news source than any other network or cable news source. Doesn't that make you all warm and fuzzy?
Oprah has more influence than any political scholar or university professor. Jerry Springer is better known than Stephen Hawking. People hang on every utterance of Rosie O'Donald and Donald Trump but can't name the seven continents or balance their checkbook.
The American public is the least capable group of practically all industrialized nations to decide on what breakfast cereal to eat....much less political leaders who control our enviroment and lives (and 10,000 nuclear weapons.)We have VERY serious issues facing us as a nation....and as a planet....and we have the imbecilic media doting on power crazed politicians who will say anything to anyone to get elected. And we sit and watch....slack jawed and dazed....and we start believing this glorified hogwash.
No....Rush and dufflebag boy Sean still carry water for the Republicans....Diane Sawyer and katie Kouric still shill the Democratic line.....and we sit here thinking we particpate in a real political system in an educated and thoughtful way.
And one winter day it will start raining......
