Elizabeth, IN Tower collapse takes 105.9, 96.5 off air

105.9 WAY-FM is off the air after the tower they used in the Ohio River bottoms collapsed last week.

WAY-FM posted photos to their web site. https://www.wayfm.com/global/louisville/105-9-tower-collapse/

WGZB 96.5 and WSFR 105.9 also have their main facility on that tower. Blaine Thompson of Indiana Radio Watch reports that WGZB is off the air, but WSFR is operating from their auxiliary facility with 2kW instead of their usual 8.2kW.

FCC filings do not indicate special temporary authority for an alternate transmission facility has been granted for either 105.9 or 96.5, although that may not be totally current.

105.9 was back on the air tonight and sounded OK. 96.5 still sounds weak but 107.7 sounds normal now .Guess things are now mostly fixed? That was quick!

107.7 was back on the air in 13 minutes from a licensed auxiliary site.

B96.5 was back the evening of the tower collapse at extremely low power from the DJX site.

105.9 is attempting to get something going from the 120' of tower that remains standing at the main site.

It will be at least a month before things are close to normal. Full restoration won't be possible until well after the first of the year, likely 2nd quarter.
